[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
...of the dramatical events that took place on June 10th, 1944, when almost the entire population of the village Oradour Sur Glane was butchered by troops from the Der Führer regiment of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich. More info here.

The nazi's imprisoned all the women and children of the town in the church, whilst the men were interrogated, shot and burnt throughout the town. Then some crates with explosives were detonated inside the church... very few people survived this massacre.

Today, the Martyr Village, as it was found after the liberation, is a monument and can be visited. A silent witness of the cruelty of mankind.

I can recommend a visit wholeheartedly, for me it was a very grasping experience. Especially when I noticed this remnant of a toy lying on the bare floor of the church.

No b&w conversion: I used the raw file and simply eliminated the colour info.

Slight crop.

Levels, curves in adjustment layers.

Knowing the history of this toy, it makes me want to cry!!
It's is a great picture and you really got the atmosphere..

Hello Frank,
Lot of things still witness the black pages of history now also.
Like in India we've Jalinwala Baug, where one can still see the traces of blood on wall. Or Andaman jail, where innocent freedom fighters were tortured, and you still feel as soon as one enter in that building.
Lets hope such things won't happen again.

't Is weeral zover ...
Samen met de foto's die je me ooit eens getoond hebt én je uitleg, kan ik zowat een emotioneel beeld vormen van wat je
daar hebt gezien.
Nu dat beeld willen weergeven in deze foto,
met een zeer beperkte range aan " grijswaarden "
dat is VOOR MIJ " gedurfd ".
Dus het softe van deze foto past, voor mij, niet in het verhaal wat jij me infeite wilt vertellen.
Het onderwerp verstopt zich te goed in het plaatje.
Je camerastandpunt vind ik een beetje " ik was aan het wandelen en ik zag ... - ' click ' "
Je laat me een " mismeesterde " kinderwagen zien op een binnenplaats.
Denk niet dat dit de bedoeling was.

Ach ... zoveel variabelen.
Het enige zinnige dat hieraan kan gedaan worden is :
je nodigt me eens uit om naar daar te trekken
voor ne foto-shoot.
In de niet-optimale fotografie-uren zullen we ons
moeten beperken tot geoverkenning, wijn, kaas, ed ...

when i was viewing this picture then i was thinking that why you have uploaded this picture? then i found the reason in to your notes.
good shot to describe the notes.

If pictures could speak......and maybe they do, after all.
This is quite something very sad and depressing.
Your capture and post work certainly delivered the stark message here.
Good job, sorry that there are things like this to photograph, but maybe through that, to some degree, we'll learn.
