...Oradour-Sur-Glane.

A monument, a testimonial to the cruelty of mankind: the brutal murder of the town's inhabitants on June 10th, 1944, by troops from the Der Führer regiment of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich. More info here.

This is the Bouchoule Bakery; in one of the three ovens shown here, the burnt body of an 8-week-old baby was discovered... None of the pigs that committed these crimes (I cannot possibly think of them as human, but I do apologize to all pigs) were really punished for it. Two of them were convicted to death in 1953 but received a pardon by the French State. Incredible...

Nowadays, the Martyr Village, "frozen in time" as it was found after the liberation, is a monument and can be visited. A strong experience, I must say.

Tech talk

No b&w conversion: I converted the raw file and simply eliminated the colour info. But I did apply an orange filter and increased the contrast.

Straightened, cropped slightly.

Levels, shadows and highlights, again to increase contrast.

Downsized and framed with some home-made PS actions.

Salut Frank,

Une image qui vaut milles mots. Good choice for the Black and white.
Nice composition. Thank You

-Josée

I think the black and white is the best for this photo, especially what it represents...
there must be real bad vibes still in the air at this place
I would add grain and "atmosphere" to it

hi Frank,
Thank you for your comment on my latest upload today. Sometimes, our photos have different impact or features in different monitor. Mine is only an ordinary LG made in Korea. It is different pixels if you use the monitor of the Mac laptop, or other laptop coz it is more sensitive. I know it because when I'm using the Mac laptop of one of my niece, I saw the big difference. Someday, i'm gonna update my computer my friend. Would you believe I'm using my PC for 6 years now? The same monitor but upgraded MOBO and evrything.

Hi Frank

A stark testimony to the brutality of the 3rd Reich. Long may they rot in hell. Good sharpness, tonal range & graphism. There were also some good shots of this place over on TE, a few months ago.

Excellent architectural photography.
