THis shows the effect of a 55 mm F1.2 lens at the largest aperture. Only the little lighthouse is sharp and everything in front and behind looks extremely out of focus. I turned the frame in order to make the little lighthouse look straight vertical - which it was by by no means - and I added a somehow stupid looking frame in order to raise your attention.
p.s.
as one could estimate at a focal length of 55 mm and a crop of 1.5 (makes 82.5 mm) the distance between camera and the sharp object was approx. 2 meters. |

Hi Thomas,
Good experiment with DOF settings, resulted an artistic photo. Well worked image, it really catches viewers attention. TFS.

hi thomas.
great use of dof and bw.
nicely composed, also.
unfortunately the frame ruins it for me. i would have used a straightforward black outline.
apart from that it is good.
Brian
Sorry Thomas, but the frame doesn't work for me. It changed the photo in a reall odd looking picture and takes all attention away from the actual subject. I do like the idea of using a very shallow DOF, but your note doesn't make much sense without explaining the distance from the subject to your lens. I can take a photo with that lens and get a lot of items in full focus. You really need to give more details to properly calculate the hyperfocal distance.
TFS,
Niek
