Good Morning Everyone,

Today, I would like to share with you a scene from my holiday. Although it looks like a scene from Holland, this is Brittany, France.

We set off early in the morning to visit the beautiful and historic St. Michel. With high hopes of a fine day and clear blue skies, we packed our cameras carefully.

As you can see, the skies were grey and a fine mist descended at times. However, this single windmill, standing high on a hill, commanded attention despite the lack of sun. It was an interesting alternative to 'The Mount'.

Many thanks for your interest.
Please feel free to feedback on any aspect of the photograph. Bev :-)

shot in raw pp in PSE6 - slight crop, adj levels, sharpened, added borders and signed

Good Morning Bev :)

Beautiful landscape shot with golden colors and cloudy sky, the scenario looks so splendid!
Well sharped, very well chosen POV and nicely managed DOF, are the assets of your picture. The dominating golden color of the field is perfectly shown. Great contrasts are existing between the field and the cloudy sky. The title of the picture well to the picture.

Very well done job!

kind regards,
Paras

Dear Bev'
Superb rhythm of those cylinders creat great harmony and composition in addition of warm color tone
The light metering was done professionaly regarding of that cloudy sky (difficult situation).
Well done and thank you

Hello Beverley
Fantastic capture, what a beautiful place to spend holidays :)
Good balance in this capture n placement of windmill is good off centered though it could have been on perfect third but its not an issue here :)

Nicely presented.

Hi Beverley

Good repetition of the haybales with the added bonus of the windmill in the bg, as an additional focal point. Excellent pastel colours & good sharpness. Tfs!

good composition, sharpness and framing, congratulations, hugs

Olá Bev,
Yes, a interesting alternative to the Mont Saint Michel and the Netherdelands...
Very good shot, excellent POV,soft colors and good sharpness.

Hi Bev,
It looks far from beeing from Holland, but a Dutchmen should know. ;)
This is a wonderful old windmill situated in a great location. However, I don't think that you captured it in a strong setting. The mill is placed to centered and the empty FG doesn't add well to the composition. Why not use one of those great hay bale as an FG element leading the eye to the subject. It would have also been better if you placed the mill more on the right 1/3 axis. It would also be a good idea to darken the shadows in the clouds a little so that the sky looks a bit more ominous.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Bev ;)
Very please3nt composition...TFS
Best wishes,

Hi Bev,

This is a very interesting composition the windmill slightly of centre with the bales of hay in the fg. A nice touch leaving the people that just in front of the windmill giving some idea to its height. The sky although grey shows some definition to it the colours are very good sharp details as normal great pov and dof well done.

Regards
Jon

Ciao Bev, lovely composition with beautiful windmill, wonderful natural colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi, Bev. Love this photo with a very good POV creating a very pleasing composition which is simple and elegant. The windmill and the different sizes of bales is very representative of the countryside in Holland but it is Brittany, France. It is Euorpean anyway.Cheers and TFS.

Bonjour Beverly,
Nice point of view and lovely country scene,
beautiful with a windmill and field, Excellent POV. and details, good colors too.
compliments
Michel

Hi Beverley...

Beautiful landscape view -Nice shot and PP work..!
Excellent POV, soft colors, details and good sharpness.
With my compliment,
George

Hey there Bev - The colour you have captured in the golden field are beautiful - really makes me wish I could be there right now :) I like the 'unconventional' placing of the windmill in the centre - good to try these things out - after all the best thing about rules is finding when to break them!

dear Beverley,
very tasteful combination of the windmill and hey rolls,
this gray sky and brown yard make late summer and early autumn feeling in this perspective.
still and calm, and a little nostalgic air is nice, it is my favorite in this season.
thank you for your excellent shot,
Akihisa

Having read the various critiques, my conclusion is - I like the negative space in the foreground. Yes it's "empty" but in my opinon it creates a separation between the viewer and the subject - a sense of distance, and therefore a sense of mystery. I actually think there is something more exciting about a distant potential discovery, than a simple "here it is" up front and in-your-face shot.

Could the sky be darker and more glowering? Sure. But it's not overexposed and it's in harmony with the colours and dynamic of the rest of the shot.

One thing I definitely would change is the placement of the windmill, I think it's too centred, further to the right would be just spot-on. :)

Hi Bev, what a nice rural scene, even if it makes me think it is from the Netherlands and not France. Maybe too hilly for the Netherlands!!
Nicely presented, and the hay rolls seem to be placed 'just right' on the field (paddock in NZ)
Well seen and captured

Hello Bev,
Interesting landscape. It's true: at first glance
it seems a scene from Holland :-)
Beautiful pastel colours. Great POV and DOF.
Excellent framing.
I like the rustic scenes... they are daily life...
Best wishes.
Ciao. Vanda :-))

Hello Bev,
A real agricultural rustic scene.
The repetition of the hay bales really adds to the compo.
I like the central placing of the windmill. it works very well here.
Nicely done.
Joni
