[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We travelled to Kervel in two days, halting in Caen for the first day. The second day we made a small detour to visit the lovely town of Dinan.

One of its landmarks is this viaduct over the Rance river, some 40 metres high. I'll put a shot in a WS so you can better see the height.

Tech talk

Set the camera up on a tripod and used the Oly's panoramic shot mode to facilitate stitching the different images together. This mode locks exposure and focal length for all successive images, so it's necessary to point at a spot where the lighting is sort of average, lock focus and exposure by pressing the shutter button halfways, and then making the composition for the first image. All images overlap by some 20 - 25 %.

Stitched two images together using the Panoramic Stitching tool in MS Digital Image Suite Editor 2006.

Straightening and croppity-crop.

Downsized the large post to a width of 4500 pixels, tried to save it to a jpeg of less than 400 Kb and found this to be impossible :-(
So I downsized once more to a width of 3500 pixels and saved the image using a jpeg quality of 60 %. I know, I know...

Slightly boosted the saturation (130).

Didn't use Frank's framing! I think scenery shots don't really need framing...

Hi Frank

The panoramic format suits perfectly. Good sharpness color & lighting. Well done!

This really is impressive in the large version. Very nice view of the viaduct. Good composition and colours. Great job with the locking focus and the stitching job. Thanks for the other view in the workshop. Boy, that viaduct is really high.

Very nice panoramamic view of the viaduct Frank, and the nice bright day shows it up well. I think the street light is in the way a little though, so I took it out for you. Hope you don't mind. Nice capture

John

Hi Frank, somone beat me to the first WS I would have had the courage to do on one of your excellent photos. Clone out the street lamp....ahhhh well.... This is an impressive landscape. Sounds like ya'll really enjoyed your vacation. TFS...:O)

Hi Frank,
Lovely panorama! Good job in stiching. Indeed those "helping" functions are great. My little canon has this one too ;)

Well done!

take care, Stef

ENCORE UNE BELLE PHOTO.
Une belle composition, intéressante avec Un POV différent. Les couleurs sont décidément ton point fort. Je suis une grande fan de ta maitrise sur les couleurs et textures.
Félicitations.
Luci
