Taken at a sanatorium for consumptives that was built between 1896 and 1930 - a place where Robert Koch discovered the tubercle bacillus.
The sanatorium was used as a military hospital in WW2, and after that, in Eastern German times, used by the Soviet Army. When they left in 1994, the sanatorium began to decay - parts are being restored now, but others, like this room, are still exactly the way they were left 16 years ago, only now the wind is howling through the broken windows and the paint is flaking from the walls. |
