[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Quadriga, atop the Branderburg Gate in Berlin.

It was built to be a symbol of peace by Frederick Wilhelm the Great of Prussia. The Quadriga is driven by Viktoria, the goddess of victory.

Interesting then, that the absence of peace was more an element of its history than peace. Numerous wars and battles were fought to conquer this area. Among others the Napoleonic Wars and also the Second world war, which ended here at this monument. (the Reichstag is very close to the gate)

Then came the division of the Cold War, of which the wall and the gate were symbols.

Fortunately now all is peaceful and quiet around here. So peaceful in fact, that it is almost tangible.

I do hope that this time it will last and that we might live in the absence of conflict.
