(WiKiPedia) Information on Inachis io (European Peacock butterfly):

The European Peacock butterfly more commonly known as the Peacock butterfly, is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe and Asia. It is the only member of the genus Inachis which is sometimes included in Nymphalis. It should not be confused or classified with the "American peacocks" in the genus Anartia; these are not close relatives of the present species. The peacock butterfly is resident in much of its range, often wintering in buildings or trees. It therefore often appears quite early in spring.

The butterfly hibernates over winter before laying its eggs in early spring, in batches of up to 500 at a time. The caterpillars, which are shiny black with six rows of barbed spikes and a series of white dots on each segment, hatch after about a week and feed on nettles and hops.

Reproduction and food:

The adult butterflies drink nectar from a wide variety of flowering plants, including buddleia, willows, dandelions, wild marjoram, danewort, hemp agrimony, and clover; they also utilize tree sap and rotten fruit.

The Peacock can be found in woods, fields, meadows, pastures, parks, and gardens, and from lowlands up to 8,200 feet (2,500 m) elevation. It is a relatively common butterfly seen in many European parks and gardens.

Hi Paras,
Another very good shot from you, do you sell these at all? I'm sure you would make quite a decent profit off them. Excellent colours and DOF with this one, the butterfly is nicely placed within the frame. I like the gentle exposure here too, well spotted.

TFS,
Scott.

HI Paras,

Stunning colours jump out at me from this photo. Beautiful nature. The Peacock butterfly is awesome too. In my childhood I raised some Peacock butterfly caterpillers in my greenhouse, feeding them with stinging nettles. They had a big apetite! I let the eventual butterflies free when they emerged from their crysalis. THis was my first experience in conservation!

Great photo and notes. TFS.

Hello Paras,

I haven't had one of these beautiful butterflies in my garden, this year, though I had some beauties last year!
They look to have the most beautiful eyes! I suppose their size makes them a threat to predators.
A lovely, angled composition and good colour cobntrasts against the yellow marigolds.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Ciao Paras, belissimo il contrasto tra i colori vivaci dell'Inachis e lo splendido sfondo giallo, macro saplendida, bravissimo, ciao Silvio

Hello, Paras -
I missed this one - it's absolutely beautiful. Great compositon with the butterfly in the lower left leaving space for the glorious yellow flowers. The contrast between the deep color of the wings and the bright yellow background is very eye-catching. The details of the butterfly are very sharp. Excellent!

Hi Paras :)

The one peculiarly nice is shown, at one's loveliest, very well is contrasting with yellow flowers. Wonderful composition, good DOF and POV.

Hi Paras,

Getting back to TL after such a long break, this is the 1st time I see Your gallery. But from what I found here, I'm sure not the last... This is absolutely a stunner, my Friend. Perfect composition, awesome color harmony - and You know yellow is my favorite. :) I bookmark this image with a little green star, it's a professional-looking shot. Everything's great here, maybe except for a little background noise, but the beauty of nature You offer here is beyond words. Bravo.

Thanks for Your opinion on my latest post. For me it's absolutely no problem if You write me unrated critiques. I'm not interested in the point system at all, I'm only interested in others' honest opinions, either good or bad, to improve my skills as a photographer.

Best wishes from Hungary, László

Ciao Paras,

I've never seen this beautiful kind of Peacock!
Fantastic! And outstanding capture!
As usual (for you) everything is Ok: colors, light, POV, compo, definition, particulars, sharpnes.

I think it would be a nice shot to improve in HDR.

What do you think about?

TFS

best regards
