[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Dresden Germany is one of the cities in the world with incredible history. Dresden was an art and cultural center of Germany before WWII. Always thought to be immune from Allied bombing, refugees from the eastern front flocked into Dresden in 1945 as well as people from the west who wanted to escape the violence of the war.

On February 13th 1945 The Allies bombed Dreden several times, creating a firestorm which killed an estimated 100,000 people and destroyed almost the entire city.

The Frauenkirchen survived the blasts of the bombing but on February 15th collapsed into a pile of rubble. After the reunification of Germany the reconstruction of this great structure was begun. Modern computer programs were used to determine the exact shape of every stone in the church. The rubble was analyzed and each useable stone was placed in the new structure. Because of the use of new and old stones, the new church is speckled with light and dark colors.

Thank you for your suggestions yesterday...I totally agree the vertical format is better. This is a merged shot of the church using two photos that were not lined up or even the same focal length. Using photomerge, CS3 resized the shots and seamed them together. The picture was then recropped.

please see the workshop for the black and white image.

Thanks again to Robert (Perryhooter)
