Here a few words about this and the previous pictures uploaded.
This is the third picture in a series I took within Freiburg's splendid cathedral, the Freiburger Münster.
I was looking for a theme about spirituality, a subject that has been interesting me for a long time. Spirituality, belief, religion and even the negation of these are all things that are of fundamental importance to people.
Nevertheless spirituality normally gets little "photo" attention.
When travelling in Asia in the past I took lots of photos of Buddhist festivals and people praying. But this time, having just about my lunch time hour to spend and a new digital camera at my disposal, I tried to capture the sense of spirituality as it happens everyday in our traditional European Christian tradition: people praying to Maria and lighting a candle as a symbol of life, belief, hope and their inner light.
The picture was shot from chest level looking down on the rotated display (which works marvellously with the Sony f828). This was important since I obviously wanted to take a photo but, naturally, wanted to respect people's prayer and not interfere with it or as little as possible.
Shutter speed was 1/2 sec at f2. The photo was gamma/contrast/brightness corrected to yield a satisfactory result and finally noise filtered (thanks Gand). |
