[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the first operating diesel engine. It was built by Mr Rudolf Diesel who was keen to create a better engine designed for heavy work such as in trucks, large compressors etc. It was built by Maschienfabrik Augsburg in cooperation with Mr Diesel. It operated on the basis of a four stroke cycle using fuel air-blast injection. Its effective output was first verified on 26 th June 1895, the recorded data showing 16.6% efficiency. This unit now sits in the MAN Museum in Augsburg. All these years later virtually every ship and truck uses a refined version of this prototype unit - amazing invention.
