This picture has originated with the 10th Jochpass.Racing-Memorial
History of the "Jochpassrennen"
The first Jochpass - Race took place on the 16th of September, 1923, in the beginning only by motorcycles and on untarred street. In this first event 80 participants were present, under it a woman (Ada Otto) who drove the quickest time.
Other seven races followed up to September, 1930. A longer break followed partly by the economic crisis and the 2nd world war.
In 1954 there was a race, the ninth ones all together again. Approx. 30,000 spectators pursued this event. Then there was again a break which lasted 28 years. In 1982 the 10th Oberjoch-Race was organised. Till 1987 it went on with annual Oberjoch-Race . A Zwei-Jahres-Turnus was agreed by the objection of physical custodians.
Then on the 21./22.10.1989 there was with 270 participants (from 13 nations!) before approx. 20,000 spectators the last "right" Oberjoch-mountain-Race.
The races in the 80s were often the final runs of the Europe-mountain mastery.
In 1999 one found to the joy of many fans on the occasion of the 100-year-old existence of the "new Jochpass" again
engine-sporty event, 1. International Jochpass-Race-Memorial, instead of. On this occasion, it concerned a same moderation check from a total of four evaluation runs. The participants had to put to themselves a Sollzeit to which they should very exactly keep. First it was planned to let take part only vehicles till construction year 1939. Fortunately, the limit was extended and vehicles were admitted which were built till the 31st of December, 1978.
Therefore were represented beside very worth seeing old-timers also "Youngtimer". Otherwise the event would have got rather small and post-war old-timers as for example BMW 507, Jaguar XK 150 and Jaguar E-Type would not have been present at all.
Many Oberjoch-racing fans were glad about the Youngtimer, because some drivers, as well as some old-timer drivers booted up quite quickly the yoke passport.
All together very much known engine sportsmen went with the Oberjoch-Race also, as for example Rudolf Caracciola, Hans Stuck, Hermann Lang, Sepp Greger, Robby ours, Mauro Nesti, Dieter Quester, prince Leopold von Bayern, Christian Danner, etc.
Since 1. International Jochpass-Racing-Memorial in 1999 the event is a firm component of the annual events in Bad Hindelang again.
The popularity of such events, as for example also the Ennstal-Classic, the Planai, the hermitage running-Memorial, the Youngtimer rally Köln-Ahrweiler etc., is confirmed by high visitor's figures. |
