Purple coneflower, otherwise known as Echinacea, from the greek "echina" meaning thorny or spiny. This plant is known and widely used for its medicinal effects, and particularly for reducing cold symptoms (although studies have not concluded entirely positive to this belief). Still, a noble flower that adds variety to any garden.
It is believed that "echinacea angustifolia rhizome" was used by North American Plains Indians, perhaps more than most other plants, for various herbal remedies. |
