Deutsche Wiedervereinigung

Heutige Bundesrepublik Deutschland, darüber die nach 1948 geteilten Gebiete:
• Bundesrep. Deutschl. (bis 1990),
• Berlin (West) (→ Berlin-Frage),
• DDR (Beitritt 1990) und
• Saarland (Beitritt 1957, → Saarstatut)

Unter der Deutschen Wiedervereinigung versteht man den Prozess der Jahre 1989 und 1990, der zum Beitritt der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik (DDR) zur Bundesrepublik Deutschland (BRD) am 3. Oktober 1990 führte, und die damit verbundene Überwindung der über vierzig Jahre lang währenden Deutschen Teilung hin zur Deutschen Einheit.
Möglich geworden war sie nach dem Fall der Mauer am 9. November 1989 in Berlin, dem Zusammenbruch des politischen Systems der DDR in der Zeit der „Wende“ und nicht zuletzt dem Erlangen eines Einverständnisses der vier Mächte.

„Deutschland als Ganzes“ wurde durch den Zwei-plus-Vier-Vertrag neu festgelegt. Völkerrechtlich wurden nicht die beiden deutschen Staaten vereint, sondern das Deutsche Volk und ihre Territorien (Länder) als Gesamtdeutschland wiedervereinigt. Staatsrechtlich wird von „Beitritt zum Geltungsbereich des Grundgesetzes der Bundesrepublik“ gesprochen, politisch und sozioökonomisch von der Vereinigung der DDR mit der Bundesrepublik.

German reunification (German: Deutsche Wiedervereinigung) took place twice after 1945: first in 1957, the Saarland was permitted to join the Federal Republic of Germany, and again on 3 October 1990, when the five re-established states of the German Democratic Republic (GDR / East Germany) joined the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG / West Germany), and Berlin was united into a single city-state. The start of the latter unification process is by former citizens of the GDR commonly referred to as die Wende (The Turning Point.). The end of the unification process is officially referred to as the German unity (German: Deutsche Einheit).

The German reunification started in the summer of 1989, when Hungary decided (2 May) to dismantle its portion of the Iron Curtain and open the borders (23 August), causing an exodus of thousands of East Germans (11 September) going to West Germany via Hungary.

The political crisis that followed the Hungarian events led to GDR's first free elections on 18 March 1990, and to the negotiations between the GDR and FRG that culminated in a Unification Treaty,[1] whilst negotiations between the GDR and FRG and the four occupying powers produced the so-called "Two Plus Four Treaty" (Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany) granting full sovereignty to a unified German state, whose two halves had previously still been bound by a number of limitations stemming from its post-WWII-status as an occupied nation.

Cologne (German: Köln, pronounced [kœln]) is Germany's fourth-largest city (after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich), and is the largest city both in the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and within the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Area, one of the major European metropolitan areas with more than ten million inhabitants. It is one of the oldest cities in Germany, having been founded by the Romans in the year 38 BC.

Cologne lies on the River Rhine. The city's famous Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. The University of Cologne (Universität zu Köln) is one of Europe's oldest universities.

Hello, Paras -
Great POV to show the majestic, heavy and ornate architecture of this wonderful cathedral. The branch with leaves in the upper left is a nice touch to give an organic element to the image. The details are wonderfully sharp with nice textures, light and shadows. I had the pleasure of visiting this cathedral once back in the 1980s - it was very impressive.

The Kölner Dom is such a magnificent piece of architecture and is well suited for your nice dedication. The low POV leading to the nice blue sky works very well. I especially like the contrasts and shadows in the intricate details of the structure.

the lights look from two directions, one is from sky and other one is reflected from ground, like foot lights on the stage,
those lights show us beautiful and dignified figure of the old church,
maybe its twin towers suggest "German Reunification".

I have seen many posted photos of the Cologne Cathedral here at TL/TE and this should be considered as one of the better ones. Your composition is to my taste. The right tower appears darker presumably from the environmental impact. I hope you took some interior shots for later posting. Regards.
