In most cases, if you have a some what distracting background, a wide aperture will create a shallow depth of field, as you have done here.
However,the white poster is distracting, because it is just behind his head and the colour white is very much contrasting with the rest of the backround colour-red.
Having said that, this is a good image made with the use of natural soft light.
