I'm taking a break from my Paris stuff to show you a little piece of Germany. You may have seen this little guy before on TL.

Unfortunately the weather was not so co-operative when we visited Cochem; lots of rain came pouring down.

I wanted to show you the corner building where this statue hangs, as well as a close-up. I just realise that there is something really wrong with his eyes... I guess the sculptor was a thirsty person too ;o). It wasn't as visible in the angle Hans took the shot from as it is here...

Did you see how the wall has been designed to fit in this statue ?

Tech talk

Used scans from 2 colour photos.

Created a large rectangular shape, selected MS PictureIt's "Fill with colour or texture" tool, selected photographs, backgrounds and chose the background image, on which I applied an emboss filter to make it look like a cobbled wall.

Inserted the photo from the building and added a frame around it.

Added the text and copied it, using a transparency setting of 60 % on the backward layer and 40 % on its top layer, to make the 'cobbles' shine through.

Made an oval selection from the second photo, and put it in the top layer of this one.

Resized for TL in three steps, applying USM 85 %; 1.0; 1 after the second step - but only on the photos, not on text or background.

Finally I added the drop shadows.

Nice work! Showing both the guy in the building and a close – clever. Good work with the background, framing and shadow under the oval!

Hey, I remember this place !
Huh, I remember this detail ?
Funny you, Frank !

Wonderful clear and bright photo considering your shooting conditions at the time. PP work is excellent and enjoy the close up view of the sculpture you have artfully included. Nicely done and very enjoyable to view... TFS :O)

Yes, maybe the sculptor had a little to much to drink when he made the statue but so have the patrons of the pub. They probably don't even notice. Very good shot and post processing.

Another very nice and well composed photo Frank! Very nice!

Is there anyone who does not know Cochem...?
Nice composition, nice idea. Well done Frank!

Frank!
Very interesting photo, showing style of German architecture. Cochem is in wine region of Rheinland. Maybe this sculpture is Bacchus the god of wine. Looking at his eyes he looks drunk or the sculptor was drunk. Can you put more facts about history of Cohem?
Thanks for sharing
ziggy

Very nice picture Frank, image très nette. Nice colors. Like we can see, all the light is at the same degree, no shadow.
Best regards
Guy

Aan het oefenen voor de volgende SH Frank?
Originele uitsnijding en een passende achtergrond, mooi gedaan.

Bean travail et en plus la photo de base est extra.
J'apprends bien dans ta composition et ton montage.
Merci pour le partage.

Very nice work Frank , I like the way you took the nice detail from the building and made your combo. The textured bg fits perfectly with the image, I thing this could be a poster to advertize this establishment.
