Cochem is a very cosy town in the German state Rheinland-Pfalz. It is situated in the valley of the Moselle river, which you see flowing here.

The medieval looking castle is called "Reichsburg Cochem" - it is a reconstruction of the castle that was completely destroyed by a fire, started by the French soldiers of Louis XIV on May 19, 1689. The French troops captured the town in March 1689, and together with the castle they destroyed most of the town as well.
Click here for more info about the Reichsburg.

To the left of the castle you can see the Martinskirche, another reconstructed building - this one was done after WW II.

Nowadays Cochem is a real tourist attraction. As you can see, there are many vineyards in the vicinity of the town, and the local wines are excellent - I know what I'm talking about ;P.

I got most of this info from this site.

Tech talk

Used 3 scanned colour negatives.
The originals were taken from a carpark high above the town, without tripod - I had forgotten to take it with me.

Stitched a panoramic image using MS Digital Image Pro 10.

Used the saturation tools, and afterwards played with the Luminosity channel to brighten the colours. Due to the overcast sky, the originals were rather dark.

Resized for TL in steps of -200 pixels horizontally - I used quite a few steps, and sharpened twice, but I don't remember after which steps...

I remember.....
With you I enjoy my holiday again, Frank !
Nice this large post, good colours, I only think, the safety-fence wasn't necessary, but a nice shot it is !

Good stitching Frank with a overall nice panorama with the river leading the composition..agree with Hans about the safety fence..made ws without it ..

Grandiose photo..belle à regarder...

Very nice pano, excelent veiew of the whole town and valley.

Very nice work dear Frank. Good colors, very nice DoF and POV! Well done!

beautiful panorama.good colours and compo.but i don't know about the rail in front.
besides that, very good shot!

Agree with all others. (Nice shot, but could be improved by removing the safety rail.)
Bravo Frank!

Isn't this a fantastic place? It is not far from Luxembourg and next year my wife and really want to cycle from Trier to Koblenz along the Moselle. Your fantastic panorama makes me wish I could go tomorrow. Good work with the stitching.

I postponed my comment cause i wanted to see a map of the region. I think i have seen this place. If it is along the Moselle, i did. I have done the Moselle on Both side, all along. Beautiful valley. And of course i like your panorama, a photo i will keep with me. Thanks.

Lovely image, you have captured this very nice area very nicely. the choice of a panoramic style view is appropriate to give the viewer a overall feeling of the area. Well done!
Vassilis

Hi Frank
I like his panorama. There is very good detail in the larger shot. Thanks for the notes about the photo and the town.
