In the Lap of a King
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
It's not every day that you get to climb into a king's lap as if he were your daddy!
This is one of the statues in the Domgarten (Cathedral Garden) of Speyer's Kaiserdom (Emperor Cathedral). There are several statues along this wall portraying kings of the Salian Dynasty. The four Salian kings, Konrad II, Heinrich III, Heinrich IV, and Heinrich V, ruled the Holy Roman Empire from 1024 to 1125.
The boy in this picture is Johannes, who is in several of my other pictures on this site. He asked me to help him climb onto the statue's lap, but after a few seconds he started getting scared and wanted me to help him get down again. I snapped this photo right before I helped him down.
I played with the color saturation of this photo to see if I could make it look almost like the boy is part of the statue. I thought about taking out all the color and adding texture to his skin to make him more statue-like, but I decided that I wanted to leave some of the original color so you can tell that he is not part of the statue. |
