Botero in Berlin
According to Wikipedia - Fernando Botero Angulo (born April 19, 1932 in Medellín, Antioquia) is a Colombian neo-figurative artist, self-titled "the most Colombian of Colombian artists" early on, coming to prominence when he won the first prize at the Salón de Artistas Colombianos in 1959.
He strives in all his work to capture an essential part of himself and his subjects through color and form. His work includes still-life and landscapes, but Botero tends to primarily focus on situational portraiture. His paintings and sculptures are, on first examination, noted for their exaggerated proportions and the corpulence of the human figures and animal figures. The "fat people" are often thought by critics to satirize the subjects and situations that Botero chooses to paint.

Botero explains his use of obese figures and forms as such: "An artist is attracted to certain kinds of form without knowing why. You adopt a position intuitively; only later do you attempt to rationalize or even justify it." He is an abstract artist in the most fundamental sense of the word, choosing what colors, shapes, and proportions to use based on intuitive aesthetic thinking. This being said, his works are informed by a Colombian upbringing and social commentary is woven throughout his work.

From September 25, 2007 to November 25, 2007, fifteen of the monumental bronze sculptures, some over 10 feet in height, have been exhibited in the Lustgarten on Museum Island and one sculpture in front of the Brandenburger Tor.
this sculpture was situated right next to the Berliner Dom.

Bonsoir Tsilla
Excellente qualité d'image pour la photographie de cette statue.Une composition nette et bien exposée.
Bonne soirée.
Cordialement
Gildas

I like the photograph for the sharpness and detail of the dark bronze sculpture since dark subjects are difficult to photograph. The composition of the figure and the two spectators add interest to the scene. Good job.

Very nice shot Tsilla. Maybe crop the top because the portion of a paint is very distracting and play "in diminuendo" the intensity of your principal subject. Thanks for sharing..

Hi Tsilla,
Funny title ... well captured. Your notes about the artist is most interesting ... I'm glad Botero sees beauty in large people ... at the end of the day it is whole being of the person that counts most. Well composed and presented. Well done! tfs

Renier

on monday

you know what strikes me here Tsilla??
it is the contrast between the "new" art (the sculpture) and the old "art" (the building in the background).
I love this capture, simply because there are so many details and colors. There is a complete story in it.
Wonderful work!

Cheers,
Anneke

Hello Tsilla,I was unaware of this particular artist,I will have to keep an eye open for some more of his sculptures.
There is lots of detail in this shot;I agree with Anneke, old and new, side by side, being observed by the visitors.
The light on this sculpture is excellent,it shows all her curves and the artistry of the scuptor.
Good title too.
Tfs, regards Jean.
