In a crowd of people there are some people who stand out and some people who don't. There are also some people who we tend to shy away from. I think it comes down to the fortunate and unfortunate. We feel naturally a little guilty when we come across people less fortunate than ourselves. This shot was taken in Marienplatz in Munich. There were hundreds of people in the square but I was struck by the difference between the pretty young girl and the less fortunate older woman sitting next to her.

Very impressive shot Roger. Great presentation and effect.
The scene is photographed and captured beautifully.
The meesage is strong and powerful.
Well done.

Hi Roger,

The message you have conveyed in your photo is very thought provoking! It's so easy not to make eye-contact with those less fortunate. They are still there though, in our thoughts, long after we've left the scene. A tug at the heart, to give a smile next time. A smile from a stranger might just make their day!

The post processing work you have done is so interesting. I'm using photofiltre right now and have not been able to achieve this effect.

Keep sending us these powerful messages Roger!

thanks for sharing, Lisa

Very good composition for the message you can give... Very expressive photo... Well done!

Hi Roger!

Interesting PP work (selective coloration), excellent quality. I like it!

boa tarde Roger

Your photo is really effective. Your talking photos about Human kind it´s very interesting and fashinating. I had great dialogues with your last postings.

I think many years ago the old woman has been the young one we see in your photo .

I love it.

My sweet regards

Hi Roger - quite a dramatic image.... Very good to desaturate the older woman, draws the eye well...
Marienplatz is always full of interesting subjects...
David

Hi Roger

ciao
Lucio

Hi Roger,
Very good composition.Great presentation.Well done.
Ralf

Hello Roger
Very interesting PP work you have singled out the older lady! Nice idea. I think it bring more focus on the young one with her music who is also shutting out the less fortunate or the world! lol

Tricia

Well done. I wonder what the effect would be if everything but the older woman was desaturated?

Lovely colourful creation with powerful B&W effect.

This picture is worth a 1000 words of social commentary, Roger. Lots of contrasts here: young v. old, colorful v. drab, well-off v. less fortunate, acknowledging the camera v. looking down. And the younger woman is sitting a step higher than the older one, plus the handrail above their heads is sloping downward like a line graph on a bad day for the Dow. Did you plan all of that, or am I reading too much into this image? In any event, a really great photo!

That is an interesting observation. The older woman really is interested in the brightly dressed girl. Interesting use of B&W also, nice "story".
Tracy

Hi Roger,
Great idea, and a really good note. Well composed portrait. TFS.

Hi Roger,
Thoughtful, really. In a way making us thankful for what we are.

A strong, and bold message thru a very high quality street photography. And the PP... very neat.

Regards,
Ramdan.

Roger Hi;
I have come back to this image 6 or 7 times today. It is so consuming and mentally challenging. A tremendous presentation with so much to see and think about. Excellent note, as well.
Congratulations, very well done.

Great photo Roger. It does present a good picture of the have and have nots. Great job of composing it.

You are so very observant!! What a wonderful post!! So much truth in what you say, and the picture itself speaks volumns. Fantastic! TFS and have a great day!

HI Roger
The focus and sharpness are perfect, you've captured the person’s expression beautifully.
Its a strong message as it does depict what you convey.
The young girl ignoring her could perhaps someday be the less fortunate.
The old saying "walk a mile in my shoes" needs to be applied in this day and age.
FAntastic shot

Hello Roger, well done on that street shot, well composed, good quality and a clever pp work, thanks!

Mario

i think you are correct with that observation, very nice notes and to be honest i feel the same way, i like what you did with this shot giving the viewer some thing to think about, your pp is very nice, i would say clean, im just starting to learn how to use pp in my photos, tfs

Hi Roger,
Very striking contrast between your two subjects but in time this shot will come full circle with the young lady switching places with the old lady in the twilight years of her life.
Wonderful PP work to this thought provoking image seen in clear colors and sharp details.

Regards, Tom

Hi Roger,

superb shot! Very strong image.

Congratulations,

Great composition, very nice and interesting picture. Good work. Regards Clanyi

hi Roger

Good observation of a crowd to single out this composition for making your subject.
tfs, bill

Hello Roger,
very good shot and very good idea.
Though I can't agree. I think that wether a person fortunate or not mostly depends on his/her inner state of mind but not on the way how these persons looks like or how we apprehend them. I mean that happiness is always inside a person and does not depend on external conditions or other people's opinions.
As for the shot itself. Perfect composition. I like light and especially colours. This shot has something that distinguishes it from amateur photo from the first look.

i like your picture, and specially your message. I feel the invisiblity is stronger when the unfortunate has different skin colour

Great work Roger:)
I like so much images with good point/message.
Combining BW and colour you illustrated that in perfect way, this is powerful photo, forcing us to think about it!
Greetings - Tom

Hello Roger,

This is an excellent story-telling picture. The contrast of the two ladies is impressive, I like the background crowd keeping moving without quite noticing the scene.

Congratulation Roger, keep going on with your wonderful portraits of ordinary people, I love it.

Have a nice day, Michel

A very interesting image Roger. You provoke many thoughts to which this type of forum cannot do due justice. I can only say that I'm not entirely in agreement of who the fortunate and unfortunate ones are. After working in mental health for a number of decades, I've met many more fortunate people not measured in materialism. And just by looking around me, I've seen a lot of miserable people in living color. Invisibiltiy also has its advantages.

Hi Roger,
Very expressive composition, well seen. Interesting PP work; the girl in the red dress draws the immediate attention, afterwards the woman in grey does the same and makes one thinking.
Well done,
Henri

Hello Roger !

Well spotted and presented. The PP work is very effective and makes your shot even more powerful. Lovely eye-contact between you and this smiling lady. She does look happier than the younger one..... Perhaps another message there....

Commected all the time to cell phones , Ipods or cd players, it seems people are living more and more in their own little world, closing eyes, and ears to the external world.

Well done again !
Robert
