Ancient Greece inside the modern Metro-station, under the Rock of Acropolis, in Athens.
The embellishment of the ACROPOLIS Station is developped in its three levels. The Athenian public is already familiar with similar exhibitions in other Metro Stations. The display of the finds in and the stratigraphy of the excavation was carried out and attended to by the scientific personnel of the Acropolis Department of Antiquities in such an impeccable way that it is often difficult to distinguish the original from the reproduction. However,this Station is different from the other ones as to its embellishment given that it also plays host to reproductions of the Parthenon friezes. Thus, the earthy, ceramic works of the anonymous handworkers revealed during the excavation are displayed close to the famous masterpieces of Pheidias and his collaborators.
It is commonly accepted that the Parthenon sculptures have acquired a universal character. This is due to their major artistic value, their history and their dispersal throughout the world. Although it is known that the British Museum is the main place of display of the Parthenon marbles, the so-called "Elgin marbles", few people know that fragments of the sculptural decoration of the temple are also part of the collections of the Louvre, Munich, Wiirzburg, Heidelberg, Vienna, Copenhagen, Rome, Palermo etc. Additionally, a marble block of the Parthenon cella is built in the Washington obelisk in the U.S.A., considered as a symbolic transfusion of the classical spirit to the new-born American democracy.
The decision to exhibit reproductions of the Parthenon sculptural decoration at the "ACROPOLIS" Station, for the first time in a public area, is also justified by the size of the foreseen ridership, in connection with the daily movement of visitors towards the Acropolis sacred grounds.

I really like this, perspective is amazing. The lighting is great, did you use any extra lighting on the scene? Looks like a fairly new station.

Η φωτογραφία σου είναι διαφήμιση για την χώρα μας, γιατί δείχνει με καθαρότητα και πολλή ωραία σύνθεση το σταθμό που εκτός από τον Ελληνικό διάκοσμο είναι πεντακάθαρος και καλόγουστος. Η προοπτική της σύνθεσης εξαιρετική και ο φωτισμός επίσης!
