*The foundation of Greece*

Inspired to post in the Treklens member *Drymd29* Style (A partly body presentation.)

The changing of the Guards at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier- in memory of all the anonymous Greek soldiers that have fallen in battlefields
On the walls there are shields and other inscriptions that commemorate victories of the Greek army from 1821 and on.

The monument is guarded day and night by a pair of elite soldiers called *Evzones*

We where there in the good company of two VERY charming Greek Lady guides:

*Tanya Sinopoulos*
... yes Princess of the world famous Vassilis Sinopulos
TL Ambasador in Greece and the other charming Lady guide :
Heleni Stathoulis
.. the charming Princess of the other Greek Ambassador
Contantinous Stathoulis !

The changing of the guard every hour is one of the top highlights of Athens.

Our Guides Heleni and Tanya told us that the selection for the 'boys' to be choosen as Guard is very very strong !

A boy has to be :
Mental and physical strong !
You have to be tall/long
Good looking ( and .. whisper ..whisper Ladies..they have to have 'good legs' )

So therefore specially for the TL Ladies in our mids:
Leg inspection!!
(rest body parts will follow in a few days)

Also there are three versions of the costume.
One for summer (khaki color), one for winter (blue)
and one that is the most formal (on Sundays and celebrations).

The Evzones are not paid to do their job.
This is actually their military service.

I can’t be an Evzone. I’m not tall enough. { *__ * }
shy a and nerve wreck !

They have to be at least 1,87 m .
Being an Evzone is immense honor for a young man in Greece.
Something like a Marine or * Green Barret * in other countries

Now Folks ..I am looking for new ways in photography ,
Like this.. snapshots.. people expressions while the busy etc etc ...
You may like this .. you may not...
I like your interest .. it all helps us in finding new ways

So like to hear what you really think !
Don t worry about points ..I already have a few ..
safe them for newcomers !

Than ..I need advice from Canon users

What alround lens should I buy ?

I am a little unhappy with my Sigma 18-200- OS

A reasonable price .. and range?? something like
the Tamron 18-250 ( no stabilizer ) but crisp shots

And can any body can tell me about the new Tamron 28-300 with VC (Vibration Control ) ?????

Feedback please

Warm greetings from Holland
John

Hi John,
Very original photo for illustrate the foundation of Greece!! What a great and relevant idea!
This is a classy image with sober colors and very nice white and grey tones declination. Beautifully done! My compliments! Annie

hahahah for all I know this could be ladies legs!
naa.. what I like most about this image is the color range. it's all made up in light tones and yet there is good contrast. Nice compo.

Cheers,
Anneke

Hola John.
Interesante comentario al que ilustras con esta imagen.
Buenos detalles y muy original, sí seńor...
Un gran saludo, JL.

Hehe ... a creative view and certainly something out of the ordinary, which I really like. I also like the subdued saturation, the beige theme where the strongest colour is in the shoes. It's an interesting exploration of textures, geometry, and a very odd costume!

p.s. sorry, no advice from me about lenses, I know nothing at all!

Well John, I'm a bit disappointed in you; you serve the ladies only a wee bit of these handsome men. So I added a small bonus in the ws section ;o))
Serious, now... I like the PoV you picked, directly behind the soldier. The foustanella touching the right hand frame is a pity, good thing is that there's no rifle in the shot - shouldered, probably. I'm looking forward for the rest.
TFS

Lenses: I definitely recommend Canon's L-series with USM motors and IS (definitely IS); 24-105 f/4 and 70-200 f/4 should suffice, if you need more wide-angle you could try a fish-eye - or keep the Sigma in your bag...
Last lens I bought was the 'plastic fantastic', a prime 50mm f/1.8 mark II. Plastic, costs you less than € 100, but is a terrific lens if you stop it down to f/2.8 - look at many of Rew's pics, and Pam (coasties) even uses it on her EOS 1D ;o)

John, John, John. Taking pictures of guys in skirts now????
Well I have to say it is original :-).
Good sharpness and details.

Hi John, This is good to see and to read your funny story about this position and your guides. It would be suitable for a postcard i am certain. The border adds interest and emphasis. Wee created. TFS. Murray.

PS i note we have a similar lens 18-200 which i am very happy with as it is considerably lighter than some others.

Hi John,

Yiassou!!! What an original view of the Evzone! Very creative. It's nice to have a close up of the shoe detail, and the uniform. I've seen the Evzones and I must admit, they are strikingly handsome! But I think that of all Greeks! :D

Good morning John
Nice advert for Greek legs!!!(I'm joking). I like the note and MacArthur's quote, especially at a time that military service in Greece is still compulsory and a great obstacle in boys' careers, as ladies are excluded. Hi time they did something about it.

Hoi Jan,

Mooie foto van ehhhh....mannenbenen. De compositie vind ik sterk, zorgt ervoor dat de focus goed op het onderwerp ligt. De kleurschakering van het uniform en de achtergrond komt zeer treffend overeen, echt een grote plus. Presentatie is perfect. Mooie inzending!

Hello Johnny,

I'm enjoying this new thing you are trying to do.
Good composition, and pov.

Hi Sir John:

Here are some review on Tamron AF 28-300MM F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC:

Digital camera Reviews

My personal opinion & experience on Sigma lenses is not very exciting. I am trying to stick to Cannon if at all I can afford and I am pleased with all of them. Any Canon L lens will be my personal choice if I can afford.
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM has served me very well for general purpose, and if you want more zoom then

Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM
seem to be the best option.
I wish you all the best in your search for a good lens. Do let me know your thoughts so I may learn some more.

PS: I am leaving to the Himalayan Ranges on 25th of this month and then receive my wife who is returning from US in Calcutta on June 7th, will try to post if I got any good images:)

The BEST all-Around lens for a Canon?? 28-135mm IS (image stabilization) L Series! The BEST... Love this lens! See if you can get buy one get one FREE Johnny! Would kill for this one! Also, my Tokina 12-24 gets quite a work out!.....LOve my Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 also!... oh well....Nice shot of these legs! Let's see a little more skin Johnny! Come on!! Us TL girls need more!

First the picture, fascinating POV, it's quite interesting, especially when aided and enhanced by the great note.
The lighting works well to highlight and draw focus to the point you selected.
Nice work here, as I said, very interesting presentation.
Lenses for Canon; costs money but the "L" series is generally fabulous, I've gotten hooked on them, much to the chagrin of my wallet/wife. ;0)
There are certain Sigmas that work well, such as the 10-20mm wide angle.
I find I spend a lot of time reading various reviews and looking here before I buy==sometimes the cost of "L" isn't quite justified for the pick up, although the 70-200 2.8 IS/USM and the 24-105's are killer, a bit heavy, but great. ;)
Thanks for sharing,
Wilt

'Good legs' - yes, that's a MUST!!
I like this style of photo Johnyty - focusing on one part of the body.

Lenses: I love my Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, and would like to buy the 70-200 f/4 - but I can't :(
Canon 70-300mm DO IS USM is good, but I have to keep standing back as it won't let you take photos up too close!
I used the Tamron AF28-300 XR when I got my first Canon 300D. It was good to practice on, but not VC. My Canons are both better than the Tamron.
Is this any help for you?

I never seen such a perspective of an Evzona!

For sure you had nice time there in Athens in a season where the temperatures are not very high.

This is one of those simple photos that is so hard to achieve. I like it a lot. It tells the story with economy of elements but richness of expression. What exactly do you not like on the 18-200? I did not try the Sigma, I played a bit with the Nikon one and I was not really fond (mainly because most of what I shoot is macro, so of course took a very different lens.

Hi John,

Can not give you advice about allround lenses, at the moment I am quite pleased with my not-allround lens.
I think I would have cropped more here and loose the skirt or present the soldier against the beautiful BG. The colours in your picture and in the BG are a total match, but by showing perfect details and light the textures are just the opposite of the BG - good job.
After this you probably went straight up into the Plaka - ain't it great being in Athens?

Hi Bro, this is very nice. Great close-up on the man's shoes and pompoms on the stockings.
Very sharp. I like the tones here.

Very well done and well framed.
Reading your note, I love the way that you took this image, from the back of the man, focussing on one part of the body. I think that you chose to crop at a good place of the body. And the surroundings that we see to be made of marble or similar stones add to the costume and the greek feel. No more needs to be shown and we know where we are, what we see :)

Cheers, sis :)
