Saint Paraskevi - The church
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is the front view of the church of Saint (Agia) Paraskevi, the patron Saint of the city of Chalkis.
Note that in this church my parents married at 1971. Agia Paraskevi is a neighborhood of the old city, very near to the harbor and my fathers parental house was to a street opposite this church!
Short infos about the church:
The church of Saint Paraskevi, a wooden roofed basilika of the 5th to 8th century. The church is built on the ruins of the ancient temple Artemi, Apollo and Leto. During Byzantium it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, «Perivleptos», but during the Turkish occupation it was turned into a store house and carriage house. After the liberation of Chalkida, the church was dedicated to Saint Paraskevi, the patroness of the town.

This shot includes all the colours that -to me at least- are so typically Greek; blue sky, deep green trees, and white / pinkish buildings. The church is ok, the colours are magnificent. TFS Μπάμπη.
I am always drawn to pictures from Greece. The buildings, the colors, everything seem to attract my attention. Some day, I need to visit. Very lovely colors. Nicely done!
