Fresco at Great Prespa lake
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
In late-byzantine era, many ascetic monks lived on the Great Prespa lake's shores, the most of them in rock-caves. Some of them built some hermitages in the rocks. Here, a fresco of Mother of God Eleoussa (i.e., compassionate) on church's lintel at Panagia Eleoussa's Monastery, built in 1409/1410 by the monks Sabba, Iakovos and Valaam, on lake's southern shore. Only the main church, with nice frescoes, painted, in the same time is intact.
(Last year I posted a photo of the Monastery's complex's ruins at TrekEarth: http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Greece/Macedonia/Florina/Psarades/photo687687.htm)
Photo processed in Photoshop.
(I selected Pella prefecture instead of Florina, because I couldn't find the later among the choices provided.) |
