SHY STERGIOS.

From the series: People@work.

A balmy May evening in Crete, a stroll through the streets, after a day full of sea and sun and beautiful scenery and photographic bliss.
I spotted this wonderful shop, filled with wonderful colours.
This is the shop owner, he sat outside with a friend, he had dreadlocks and a kind face.
I gathered all my courage and asked him if I could photograph him in his shop.
I empathised with him when he told me he did not like to have his photo taken.
After a lot of cajoling and a major charm offence, he finally agreed.
I did not ask him to pose, just please, look at the lens...
No time to put the flash on the cam, not for the tripod,(I would have lost him, I know he would have changed his mind) just the ambient light (mostly neon)!!!
Well I did get the exposure right, believe me. I am still surprised at how well it came out.

What an expression on his face, he?

We had a lovely chat afterwards and I came home with bags of Cretan herbs and loads of their famous saffron and of course honey, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
So everybody happy.

Have a great day and thanx for your comments, always appreciated, Magda (*_*)

Yes, I recognize the ambience of a Greek shop, I love them so much:) funny expression on his face, it tells 'Do I really have to?' lol. I like also the background you managed to capture so nicely, oh I miss Greece now!
regards, happy Sunday Magda
M:)

You captured his reluctance to be photographed very well in his expression. The colours of the sponges as a backdrop are lovely.

I wouldn't change much to this picture. A very good candid portrait, the placement of the man between the sponges and the shelves full of jars is crucial. Oh, maybe crop a bit of the top to remove that glare in the pink area. Thanks for sharing this one, Magda! It adds sunshine to a rainy day...

Hi Magda

Missed this one. A superb daily life shot, with excellent color, sharpness & lighting. Good work!

Magda, I too agree with most of the things being said. "Do you really have to?", the placement of the chap and his overall expression. The colours and shapes of the sponges are excellent. A very good daily life picture. TFS

Hi Magda, nice catch on this man's expression in his world. It's nice to see all what he has to sell.

Well done. Take care, Yan :)

Hi Magda,
He looked really bored and seems to say "are you done yet". Great photo full of colors with a very nice mood. Well done.
Have a great sunday.
Luc

Hey! You have visited Greece, Magda?
I hope you liked it and enjoyed it!! Cretans are famous of their hospitality :)
Great shot and very representative of the daily life of people living in the islands. That's the way they earn money; they live from the sea and they love it.
Vivid colours and sharp detail. :)
Well done!
Constantinos

Een beetje set-upped; ik zou me alleen op die sponzen werpen met die sponzenman achter me. Heel andere foto dus, maar jij wilde dit.
Voor de man@work prima, alleen hij worket hier niet.
Groet

lovely colours, magda, in a very interesting composition! if the yellow of the sponges wasn't so "good", I think it coulded be a nice sepia picture too

the man has a cute expression on his face, but more expressive than him are the sponges!:D I love them!

Vivid colors and setting, his expression is priceless! TFS,
Fran

Magda, wow, excellent real world image! Great sharpness, and spectacular colors! Love the man's expression! Looks like a nice shop to visit :-)

I love his expression, as if to say, hurry up and get this shot so I can go on with selling more sponges to the tourists. Glad you had the courage to ask him, as this is another good one for your series. To think all those sponges were under the sea at one time, and they end up in our bathrooms :) The yellow adds a lot of nice colour to the scene.

Not the most joyous of expressions, however with that amount of sponges to shift he probably had a right to look that way ;)

Very very sympathetic caracter the spongeseller..I imagine a lot of fantasies of him asa a first actor of a film about medecine-man.. I think he knews a lot about traditional medecine..isn't right?
Great shot and POV. Thanks you Magda for sharing..

So funny that they have those sponges on shelves! The decor looks great, so does the "man at work"! Good colours, the blue on yellow.
TFS,
Bebe

The photo is well balanced, exposed properly and very colorful. Good job
Although, by its self, it does not represent your theme 'people@work'
It looks more like it should belong to a 'people standing around in a shop' theme.
Take it easy

Matt
