THE FAMILY.

Prina, a mountain village, where nothing much has changed…
OOOh, yes, they have the euro and they now, by European law, must all have electricity, well, in between the power cuts they do...
But the people are generous with their time, their warmth and friendship.
They welcome you with food and drink, homemade and home-grown.
Compared to them we seem to have so much, we don’t realise the things we're missing?

I thought since I had taken them all separate, I had to take a family photo, so here it is.
I know about the bg, and yes I could have ‘changed’ it, but WHY? This is where they sat, in front of an empty building on the small square, in the shade, with other villagers, older people like themselves , they’ve lived their lives together and grew old together, the young ones go off to the cities or Athens for studies, most of them do not come back…

Just taken with natural light, no reflector, no flash, straight. Film: Ilford Delta 400

Have a beautiful day and thanx for visiting, M, (*_*)

you have the attention of the men, the woman is staring away.
if you have hold your camera a little 'deeper' , the two hands were fully in this photo. black and white is good.

seppe.

I like the way the son is leaning into the frame with his intense gaze while his father sits back looking content. A delightful spontaneous portrait in lovely black and white tones. The background shows us part of the character of the place so I'm glad you left it in.

What an impressive trio, Magda !

THANKS and have a great week,
v
ps.Sorry, I'm out of points

hello magda!
wonderful portrait of old peoples.
great work!
regards,
zoran

You don't get such faces in the cities, do you? Sceptical parents, a charmer of a son. That's my impression. Each face worth a solo portrait. So much 'body language' here, so much to look at and wonder about. Thank you for sharing this image with us, Magda.
Cheers:)

Hallo Magda.

Mooie koppen; Fellini of Heimat koppen.

Hi Magda,

I like the self-portrait
a beautiful picture.
Congratulations, taste!

Hi Magda,

Great portrait of the family!
The B&W works very well here, highlighting their facial characterisitcs well. Nice detail and tight crop!
Well done!

Constantinos

Hi Magda

Indeed is a very fine triple portrait of this Cretan family but I like to agree that the hands are our of your frame. Excellent choise of B&W tones. Nice work.

Straight up, no chaser. Raw humanity, directly recorded on the media. And what a record it is. I will not hold the hand cutting against you; who cares about the hand here anyway! It's the eyes! I just wish there had been curtains in the window to mitigate the white area above the mother. But then, you are a photograph, not a house decorator! Nice one, Magda!

I cannot really top Pierre's comment as it said it all and more beautifully that I could. Just a simply interesting portrait of this family with lots to read in their expression. Well done!

Hi Magda, this is a very nice portrait! What a stair the son is giving at the camera!

Nice one. Take care, Yan :)

The black and white treatment is perfect for this photo, it enhances the scene but shows the lines in their faces, life lines from living, smiling and from the look on the son's face...a bit of flirting!! Lol, well done and thanks for sharing,
Fran

A fine family - full of character - well seen :)

Hi Magda,

Excellent family portrait. I love all the details on it, perfect work!

ferran
