Vitsa is 37 km from Ioannina and it is built at an altitude of 960m. It is one of the largest villages of Zagori with beautifully built houses and carble stone streets. Until 1753 it was a simple entity with the village Monodentri. Having n Vitsa as your base, you can see all the sights of the area of Zagori:
You can see: The village Ano Pedina, mansion houses, monasteries, the Lampriadio school etc. In the village of Kato Pedina you will have the chance to visit the park with the ostriches, the horse club, stone wells, the monastery of St. Athanasios etc. The village Elafotopos is near.
The village Vitsa offers a library and churches: Profitis Ilias of the 17th century, the holly monastery of the Mary in Kato Vitsa, St Nikolaos and the church of Taxiarches built in the 17th century. You can admire the architecture of the mansion houses and the schools.
The ancient settlement of Molosi (tribe of ancient Epirus), was found in the location Genitsari. Small streets lead to the archaeological site, the stone bridge of Vikos (Vitsa - Vikos Canyon which is 45 minutes on foot and Vitsa Profitis Ilias 20 minutes), the country churches and the Bridge of Misios. |
