Spiny Restharrow

Ononis spinosa

Fabaceae.

Has many spines that are hairy.

Roots taste of liquorice if chewed.

Found in stony locations.

Name restharrow derives from certain species with tough stems that grow on arable land. The tough stems would stop the farmers harrow.
