This is the place where we love to spend our summer vacation - the peaceful Vourvourou.

Vourvourou is a seasonal community and administratively it belongs to the village of Aghios Nicholaos at a distance of 120km from Thessaloniki.
Its history is known from the 10th century, when the small monastery of Ieromnimon in the area was given as a "metochi" to the Mt. Athos monastery of Xenophontos. The area was known by the name "Land of Vourvouron". It was covered with oak trees, contrary to today's vegetation which is mainly coniferous trees. The monastery of Xenophontos developed the area during Byzantine times. The neighboring fish farm was organized and the fields were used mainly as pasture for the monastery cattle.
In 1878, during the Russian-Turkish war, the Turks attempted to settle Circassian refugees in the area, but this was finally avoided thanks to the efforts of the Greek consulate in Thesaloniki.
In the 1960's professors of the University of Thessaloniki established a community of national significance.
In 1974 excavations were carried out in the area around the chapel of Panaghia in Vourvourou and ruins were unearthed which are believed to belong to the Byzantine monastery of Ieromnimon and the more recent "metochi" of Simonos Petra.

Yes Vlad,

It would not be difficult to get used to a place like this.
There I was trying to make a 60 year old picture presentable, and here you are doing everything you can to get that aged look.
Love the result, so when you move to Greece you frame this one (have to look for an old frame) and hang it on your wall ^-^.

TFS

Vlad I remember a Travel commercial campaign many years ago and
the slogane was:
*You where born in Greece*(thats where many things started .. like philosophy, democratie etc.
Last year I was in Greece first time .. seeing views like this and after that it all made sense..
Yes .. we SEE Greece here.
Good job

john

Hi vlad

Looks like it was taken 100 years ago, due to the dust marks, & scratches. I like the effect! A superb place to vacation too. Tfs!

A wonderful job of aging this lovley image, Vlad. The choice of the 2 programs created just excellent results. I still think it would be a wonderful place to see. Very creative and interesting.

Wanda

Sorina
