Yesterday, John Toulopoulos showed us the legs of an Evzone, a member of the presidential guard (Proëdriki froura). So I thought it would be nice to show you an entire Evzone, dressed in the ceremonial uniform which is worn on Sundays, holidays and public ceremonies. There are always two Evzones guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There are also other guards, watching over the evzones - lots of tourists try to touch them, I noticed. Well, tourists, you know... ☺

This soldier was marching in parade pass towards a guard house to my left. John, this is how they use their legs ☺. I was struck with awe when I saw the two guards move synchronously -and very slowly. They have a fantastic ability to control their muscles, and must have a terrific sense of equilibrium. Then again, they are elite troopers!

Ann and I were watching the guards accompanied by Ilianna, whom we had met during the TL meet in Gent in 2006. She and I filled up quite a number of memory cards ☺.

Three more views of the costume(s) here, here and here.

Tech talk

I wasn't standing in the front row here, and unfortunately I shot a bit of an arm too, in the right bottom corner. Couldn't crop it out and, well, it didn't bother me enough to clone it out.

Light was rather dim, Athens was covered by a thick layer of clouds that morning.

Adjustment layers for levels and curves.

Downsized, framed and signed.

Bonjour Frank,
Magnifique! Annie

Nice capture Frank. Well composed, with an interesting pose by the guard. Good lighting and colors.

TFS,
David

Mmmm .. sexy ! :-)
Frank: Good job ! And it is quite possible we have the same guy 'nailed down'
since mine was about 30 hours 'shot' before this one.
I think I have about 30 of the guys..but stil.. every one comes out with another view/angle
(question..what is that sort of smoke right side below?)

Thanks Frank .. a pleasure to see

John

Well done
Argiris

How hard this must be to walk like this!! But very interesting to see Frank. It must be a great tourist attraction.
You timed him nicely, only I would like to see more space in front of his foot...
I wondered what you had cropped out - it looks okay to me,
Cheers
Janice

Hello Frank,

Very good capture of this famous guard, in action, I can say. :-) Excellent clarity of details and a very good POV. TFS

Best regards,
Sorina

Hi Frank,

I sse my dear friend that your morning in Athens was fruitful as far as photos are concerned. Very nice capture of the young presidential guard, specially your timing! Nice tight composition, great lighting and presentation,
Greetings to both ,

Hello Frank,
Well compsoed shot and excellent framing.
I like his pose.
Now for those few, who thought the legs JohnTulip put are of women, now know that its a man :D

Hoi Frank,
Strakke plaat, mooi de actie gevangen. Qua compositie helemaal goed.
Hans

Hi Frank, I think the muscles would ache until that march became second nature. Very well composed, good tones and excellent detail. The signature looks good too :)
David

Laat me beginnen met te zeggen dat ... :-)

" it didn't bother me enough "
Dus " toch " maar je had geen goesting ... >:-)

:-)
