Capparis spinosa

is highly variable in nature in its native habitats and is found growing near the closely related species C. sicula, C. orientalis, and C. aegyptia. Scientists can use the known distributions of each species to identify the origin of commercially prepared capers.
The shrubby plant is many-branched, with alternate leaves, thick and shiny, round to ovate in shape. The flowers are complete, sweetly fragrant, showy, with four sepals, and four white to pinkish-white petals, many long violet-colored stamens, and a single stigma usually rising well above the stamens
Medicinal uses
In Greek popular medicine a herbal tea made of caper root and young shoots is considered to be beneficial against rheumatism. Dioscoride (MM 2.204t) also provides instructions on the use of sprouts, roots, leaves and seeds in the treatment of strangury and inflammation.[citation needed] Rutin is a powerful antioxidant bioflavonoid proven to search out super-oxide radicals in the body. Perhaps this explains the Ancient Greeks’ understanding of the caperbush as a vital medicinal plant.
History
The caper was used in ancient Greece as a carminative. It is represented in archaeological levels in the form of carbonised seeds and rarely as flowerbuds and fruits from archaic and Classical antiquity contexts. Athenaeus in Deipnosophistae pays a lot of attention to the caper, as do Pliny (NH XIX, XLVIII.163) and Theophrastus.

Hi Argiris,
An unusual flower but beautiful. Good balance lighting and contrast. Well captured and presented with good image quality. I like your informative description ... interesting. tfs
Cheers,
Renier

There is a kind of symmetry in the first flower and another kind of symmetry between the two flowers: this makes more attractive the whole composition which is already very fine for the shapes and delicious colours.
Bravo,
Donato

Hi Argiris,

Beautiful colours, Argiris. Nice sharpness too, but the downsizing process caused some jpg compression in the edges here and there. Not too bad to make the image suffer though. A nice backdrop too.
TFS

Hi Argiris,

Those stamens are like natures firework.
You have chosen a lovely POV to get this elegant and vibrant picture.

Yasou Argiris !

Long time since I visited your page , Not because you are not posting good material. In fact your gallery is quite impressive . I just had to pick a favorite among the beauties aof your colorful gallery.
No I am just too busy this year to comment and critique as often as I used to.

Here the image is simply FANTASTIC. The post processing work is very effective to accentuate the colors.

Some negative poinbnts: Some edges are a bit distorted in the upper right although, perhaps maybe because of the changes you made in tones, or it was oversharpened.

Keep on shooting, experimenting and sharing . You do it well !

Cheers!
Robert
