[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is to show how chruch domes looked when Christianity was young. At that time there were not so much of the gold and glitter than we so often see later. This is a detail and the more complete dome can be seen in a workshop image.

This painting is about a thousand years old. It is in the roof of the Church of the Holy Apostles an Athens. This church dates from the last quarter of the 10th century. It is the first significant mid-Byzantine church in Athens and the first of the so-called Athenian type.

Agii Apostoli Solaki (Holy Apostles Solaki) is significant in the development of Byzantine architecture because it is a successful combination of a central plan and a cross-in-square building.
