another portrait with my girl in BW this time...
for the light i use some candles in order to have a natural light instead of a lamp or flash. Crop and sharpening with photoshop and some minor contrast and brightness fixes with Nikon Capture NX. Hope you like it! all comments welcome. Take care you all!

Hi Panos, Sorry to that your very beautiful girlfriend is not presented as she deserves. To me, the image seems out of focus and in lack of details.
Sorry if I'm too harsh
You have done much better, I think
Best regards
/Henning

Hi Pano,

I agree with Henning the focus is soft and not as sharp as it could have been.

Rather than this being a negative, I actually think that it makes the image posted pleasing, I like the soft focus and lighting.

Different people, different tastes I suppose.

Thanks for sharing

Colin

Hi Panos

I've done similar experiments to this myself in the past, using various light sources.

The biggest problem with low-light - whether it's candles or a lamp - is that you need such a long shutter speed that movement will be a factor. Either camera-shake, or your model simply breathing and moving naturally. We can see here, the shot simply isn't sharp.

The other problem is that you needed the candles so close to your girlfriend, that the light is too intense. There is a blown-out highlight on her cheek, and the shadows are too deep elsewhere. The only way to manage this is to have the light source further away from your subject, and allow the light waves to diffuse more effectively.

A good experiment but in this case, I think, not effective.

best wishes
Rew

Hi Panos

The sepia tone works well here. A slight lack of sharpness, but the mood over rules, here, with strong graphism & contrast. Well composed, with a good, angled pov. Tfs!
