The Acropolis,
is the most important and characteristic monument of the ancient Greek civilization and still remains an international symbol. It was dedicated to Athena Parthenos, the patron goddess of Athens. It was built between 447 and 438 B.C. and its sculptural decoration was completed in 432 B.C. The construction of the monument was initiated by Perikles, the supervisor of the whole work was Pheidias, the famous Athenian sculptor, while Iktinos and Kallikrates were the architects of the building. The temple is built in the Doric order and almost exclusively of Pentelic marble. It is peripteral, with eight columns on each of the narrow sides and seventeen columns on each of the long ones. The central part of the temple, called the cella, sheltered the famous chryselephantine cult statue of Athena, made by Pheidias.
Below the Acropolis is the theater of Herod Atticus built by the Romans in 161 AD and is still used today for classical concerts, ballet, performances of high cultural value and Yanni.

Great inviting photo Constantinos, nice POV, composition and colours. Your note is very informative and interesting, along with your nice frame, all make a very well done photo presentation.... Sam

Good POV here, in a classic composition of this even more classic subject! I like the amount of trees you include in the front, gives good depth to your capture... Wonderful clear blue sky

Hi Constantinos

I like the wonderful pov over the Acropolis. If 'polis' = city, what does 'acro' mean? I like the horizontal layering here, into thirds. (Blue, grey, green.) Good work!

An excellent overview of the area, Κώστα. The monuments are stunning, but the environment is perfect for them. Maybe cropping more from the top would work fine too, to avoid the bottom of the buildings being in the centre of the picture... Anyway, TFS.

Excellent capture of this classic monument, very nice detail, and composition. The deep the blue sky is another typical Greek quality, that compliments the beautiful photo.

A very good photo of an historic place. TFS.

Another postcard-perfect picture, Constantinos. Nice overall view of the Acropolis with great colours & light. Excellent!

P.S. I had to leave a comment on this one because while on vacation in Italy we visited Paestum which has one of the 3 best preserved Greek Temple and it reminded me of the Acropolis so seeing this picture while looking over your gallery brought back some good recent memories.

Sorry, I have run out of points for today!

AMAZING POV Costa... :D... I love the colors here... :D. I love the composition... The light plays very well here... :D. The height the monument is located shows its precious instint... :D... Great one as usual and a very informative note... :D Thanks for sharing :D

Hima.

This an unusual point of of view of the Acropolium. We used to see oly the big building in touristic guides and books.
And thaks for the note. It's useful.
