Hello Trekkers!
I remember once I said I don't like to take photos of my town as tourists do but I've changed my mind...at least for a couple of minutes... :)

The 1st of May was a rainy day, but it started to clear out at the end of the day! I hoped that on a gloomy day like this not too much tourists were visiting the town! I was right :) There was nobody around after 8! So I set up my tripod to make photos of one of the symbol of Szentendre: The serbian orthodox memorial cross on the main square!
The cross was erected in 1763 to commemorate the town being spared from a plague epidemic in the region. According to an unwritten tradition there is a body buried upside-down under the cross to stop the plague breaking open from under! Hmmmm... spooky isn't it?! :)

PP: only minor changes in PSCS2, crop & USM!

I hope you like it! :)
N-joi!

Hi ToM,

What a wonderful POV!
It's a fantastic night shot with great lighting! I like the fact that the rain has given a shining look to the stones on the ground. I definitely like it. :))
Well done and TFS!

Constantinos

What good memories you bring back with this picture, ToM. I like your narrow elongated format that gives a very good impression of space. Interesting how the houses are at an angle but I know the city is built on a hill so it is logical and also due to your use of the wide-angle. I might have cropped a bit on the right to eliminate the half of the street lamps and to bring the orthodox cross a little bit more to the right. I like the night light & the heavy sky. Well done!

Hi Tom,

great perspective and point of view in this picture, also the colours, they create such a special atmosphere...well done!

Regards, Ivana

Hi, excelent shot with wonderful coloures. TFS

Hey ToM, I like your POV from low to the ground, or is there a rise in the square. Anyhow, the composition is good. The Szentendre stands out clearly, you have good lighting and colours too. The sky fits the scene well too. So, it's a good tourist scene! Thank you,
Janice

What a wonderfully inviting square - you have captured that mood very well. No wonder so many tourists like to visit. Thank you for sharing.

tfs and have a sunny day,

A compelling image Tom. Nice use of foreground with your wide angle lens. The lens also created an interesting distortion to go with the interesting light.

The 10-20 worked very well on this one, you've seen it well and did well too. Superb exposure, thanks for this good shot Tom.

Mario

Did you clear the entire city from people before taking this shot? :) You live in a beautiful place. The photo is excellent - great composition, beautiful colors, etc. :)

Katya

Hi Tom,

Great nocturnal shot, great work with the light, also excellent composition.

regards,

ferran

Great nocturnal shot. You managed to keep a lit sky just before it becomes pitch black.
Nice WA.

You rock Chiquito!

Ben.

Wow, such a pretty little town square with significant history behind it. Tom, you have nailed the exposure in this, it's perfect. The lighting and pastel colours of the building and bricks contrasting against the dark sky and the lighted highlights of the memorial cross are awesome. Excellent use of your wide angle sigma lens at 11.5mm, PoV and composition are superb. A favourite.

Kindest regards
Wayne

i do recognise this square ;o)
it's often interesting to behave as a tourist in our own towns :o)
i should probably do the same soon ... have very few photos of Brussels and/or Athens :o)

Hi Tom, love this nightshot, and am happy not many people were around. Beautiful piece of work.

Marleen

Amazing night shot Tom!! Very nice low angle composition, ultra wide angle distortion giving a dynaamic to your shot! The lighting is fantastic.
Bravo!
Vassilis

How lovely. Yes, these are the stones (cubble), which kill my shoes ;o)
Congrats ToM, nicely designed, and well set shot. I like the angle you chose.

As often, I'm late. I want to tell you that the ambiance got me . I just like this place maybe just because you have known how to take this shot, I really like the composition, a night shot taken at the right time.

certainly that's a good photo you took! :P

Hi Tom

Erim

There are few things I like more about photography than a good wide-angle shot. And combined with the blue hour and the brilliant colors, this pic makes an instant favorite... I especially love how the light shines on the cobblestones it gives the photo such a delicate clean feeling. Ez a kedvencem a galériádban... eddig :)
