The fairy-tale-like Fisherman's Bastion is situated on top of one of the hills of Buda. From there you have a breathtaking view over the Danube and the entire city. The various small towers are connected by corridors and staircases and offer you many small windows overlooking the city and the rest of the Fishermen's Bastion. We didn't understand the meaning of the architect who built the Hilton Hotel immediately next to this historic place at first, but after a closer look we understood that he actually did try to make it fit in the environments. The 13th century Gothic church that used to stand here and of which some parts still do exist had a simular appearance and the architect even rebuilt the top of the former bell-tower of the church. Unfortunately he also chose for red, extremely reflecting windows which first made the building look more like a casino or funfair to us than a 13th century church. Well, the reflection of the bastion in the windows of the Hilton Hotel gave an opportunity for a special picture.

Zeer sprookjesachtig gelegen is het Vissersbastion, bovenop één van de heuvels van Buda, met een adembenemend uitzicht over de Donau en de hele stad. De verschillende Efteling-torentjes zijn met elkaar verbonden door gangetjes en trapjes en allemaal zijn ze voorzien van leuke doorkijkjes over de stad en de rest van het Vissersbastion. De bedoeling die de architect van het naastgelegen Hilton Hotel had gehad bij de bouw van dit gebouw ontging ons in het begin even, maar bij nadere inspectie werd ons duidelijk dat hij toch een poging had gedaan om zijn ontwerp in het geheel te laten passen. De 13de eeuwse Gotische kerk die ooit op deze plek stond en waarvan gedeeltes nog overeind staan direct naast het hotel had een soortgelijk uiterlijk en zelfs het torentje van de klokkentoren van deze kerk is nagemaakt op de oorspronkelijke plek. Helaas heeft de architect die het Hilton in de jaren '70 bouwde gekozen voor rode, extreem spiegelende ramen en deed het gebouw ons bij een eerste aanblik eerder denken aan een casino of speelhal dan aan een 13de eeuwse kerk. Maar ok, dat levert dan wel een mooi plaatje op. Je ziet de reflectie van het bastion in de ramen van het Hilton Hotel.

Mooie compositie in deze foto!! (hij LIJKT wat scheef te staan... of ligt dat aan mij, ik twijfel een beetje)
Zelfs de kleuren van het bastion veranderen door de ramen.
Mooi gezien, Mas!!

Hoi Marcel,
Ondanks het feit, dat het dan niet helemaal bij elkaar past en voor het gevoel niet helemaal "klopt" geeft het toch een heeeeeel mooi effect! En jij zag het en legde het vast voor ons.
Een heel mooi plaatje!

A different approach to admire this splendid building of architecture. The reflexion is very clear and the excellent light. The hotel makes him a natural frame in the good tonalities of colors, even if I understands that to find the adjustments which eliminated too much from this color were not to be obvious.

The Fisherman's Bastion I have visited too in 2000 and 2002, but didn't made such an impressive picture as you did my friend. Perfect imaginary photo, my compliments.
Regarding Janneke's comments; she always find something which isn't right in the picture (and mostly she right :) Anyhow, see you around my friend!
