We spent the last Saturday in a saktepark in Budapest. Only a few we have.. :( and only one real half-pipe is there (3,5 m high)!
I decided to take some action pix but in a different way. Showing not the trick but the skater!!
It was an interesting and hard task, because in the half pipe you can pick up a very high speed and need to focus all the time but on the other hand your "model" cannot pose but act natural because of the concentration. :))
I was quite happy with this shot. I think my friend's face tells everything... Still feel the dedication to sk8boarding even over the age of 30! :))

PP: Crop the bottom part a bit + frame

Szia ToM!
This is a really great shot! I've seem all the others you have from skaters, but I think this is my favourite. First I love the way you caught the skater's face, showing him in total concentration, then the fact that not all of his body is showing and that his positioned just at the edge of the photo giving room for the half pipe to be seem really gives the photo a strong sense of action.
Great capture.

Ana

You would have had to be fast to catch him!! Very good action shot ToM, and his expression is full of concentration. He isn't thinking of you at all, just well into his skating. And I like how you cropped him, or was that where he was when you shot him? Very good job!

very cool POV
i like the intensity in your fren's face Tom :)
good action shot, i wish we could see more of his feet and skateboard...but this composition still works with the half-pipe in the background :)

Hi Tom!
you made a terrific shot!yes, his face tells everything, and you cropped the picture masterly!
great job!
M.:)

Everything is in the concentration! And you did a good crop! Good elements explain the context in the picture! Great one!

This shot has speed, tension and gravity!
Very good; nice cropped to create this moment of concentration without showing the skate.
Very good Tom

ToM,

superb shot. I did something similar with at a surfing competition. Focussing on the skater is a much more impressive POV. I appreciate how hard this was to get in terms of focus and aspect.

You have great friends helping you. I bet he is pleased. No doubt this is hanging on his wall by now!

Take Care - Keep shooting,

Lance

Hello Tom,
A great action shot and yes, your freind's face does tell everything: the concentration, the intensity and also the dedication. His body language also speaks volums about the action and fun of this sport. It was more of a hit in the 80s, wasn't it?
Regards,

Shelly :)

PS Just out of interest, what does it say on the wall behind your friend? and I really hope you fully recovered from your flue :)))

Excellent action shot, you have done a great job catching the expression on his face. Under the circumstances that is not easy. Well done!
Vassilis

Hi Tom,

Nice shot and you could well and truley say you managed to achieve what you set out to do. The focus of most sports photography is on the action itself this shot is capturing the prelude to a trick and really shows the skaters emotion in prepartion for what faces him.

Well done with this capture going to add it to my 'Extreme Sports' theme hope thats alright

regards kruger
