OK..the time has come for something new. :) After a long hesitation and with some encouraging words from Ana Carloto aka. alagoa I decided to post a self-portrait. This is a new territory for me in photography..I'm rather a person behind the camera !! :)) Actually it's the result of an experiment!
Here's my technique :)) This shot (among some other)was made in my pitch black room while the camera was set to night-portrait mode. The trick is that I put my hand in front of the flash so my face couldn't get the light directly only between my fingers!! Because of that some other pic turned out to be more drastic with this kind of lightings.
PP: I used gradient map (orange and black)again and cropped + frame.
Hope you like it! :)

g

Yes! Good Job!
Good ilumination! Excelent
Bravo!
David

Szia Tom!!
Well, for someone who didn't want to do a self-portrait I think you've done a beautiful job here. I like the dark space on the left and the way the warm glow lights up your face enough for us to see you, but at the same time to keep us guessing. It's a very moody portrait :)
I am really happy that I was able to convince you to do a self portrait!!!!!!
It's a wonderful work Tom. Congratulations! I hope you had fun doing it and keep on surprising us ;)
Köszönöm!!!

Ana

OH! great selfportrait! Thank you Ana to courage him:-)))
You done it in the gesture of big photographer. I like you choose to show us only part of face, little mistique note.
Bravo!

Nice shot, Tom! I like your technique to put your hand in front of the flash. Brilliant! Your composition is excellent. One of the best self-portraits I have seen on TL!

great self-portrait... a sort of diabolic representation ;))
Fred

Looking at the picture you can well be one in front of camera Tom. A nice and a successful experiment. In fact, you should put a caveat... the result may not be as good with all of us. Good show :-)

Hello ToM,

You took very interesting portrait in nice warm colour's range. I like in what way light and shadow build the shape of face. This is John Lennon's style ;)
Personally I would use different way of crop so that to receive thighter frame.

best regards

dimeola

Great first self-portrait, ToM and very interesting & creative technique to get this wonderful result. I like that we see only half of your face and the other half is something we need to imagine. I also like the almost sepia tone the light has created in this portrait. You have also capture a really nice expression in your eyes.Excellent!

perfectly done!!
especially i like your technic.

For someone who is more comfortable behind the camera this is very nice indeed. I particularly liked the idea of putting the hand in front of the flash... THe colour and the expression have a different effect tho ...something out of a suspense thriller...that kinda says...you never know what gonna happen next!! Maybe more self portraits. lol!!

oh, it looks a paint from Rembrandt! Very nice shadows and light!

Hi ToM
I agree with the Crits, It is absolutely great, the composition is strong

Great pic...

It was a good idea to post that autoportrait! I'M surprised that so many photographers are shy about they're own picture... I'm not shy to show me, but in my case, i admit i prefer a lot to be the one who will do the setting, using a tripod to picture myself.
I like the orange tone and fading into shadow!

Kind regards
Dawn

And you say you needed encouragement?? this is great! good trick, too! I like the way your eye is quite sharp...which is good because you do have a penetrating glance!
I love the tones you used here too. i think it would look cool with blue as well...just remebered a friend of mine who said it's his fav colour ;))
regards, see ya!
Marija

Nice shot. I like your technique and very successful experiment. Well done.

Excellent self portrait. The trick with your finger on the flash is great, thank you for sharing that info!
I like the composition here, it's very interesting to have that much resting space on the left, but it's not too much! Light on the right side is excellent, you've managed to achieve great warm tones with PP.
Excellent job done, but I ran out of points for today :(
Regards
Robert

P.S. And here are the points today :)

Beautiful self-portrait, Tom !!!
I like a lot your intense look and your expression ... a part of you in the shadow.
Great work !

cool self-portrait and idea...' love it...tfs

Hi Tom; wonderful result you have here; something new you say; it will feel good to get this done.
NIce to have the greatest part in dark; gives a special mood to it.
Huub

after the woman in red the man in orange?
I like your PP, but also without your work on colours, only a B&W, I's liked how you used the shadows....
well done
Paolo

This is awesome! Beautiful lighting and nice use of color here. The compositionwith the black is perfect. Nice and sharp too! Excellent! JP

Hi Tom,what a malicious look here,I like your half dark face, that makes you also a little mysterius, while the orange tone gives a touch of lightness to all the image.
Well done

Hi Tom,

It is really great, I like it very much.
Thanks, Hédi

I seem to have just discovered you on TrekLens. This is a great self portrait. Nice work with the flash and the gradient.

Wooow! Stunning! and if that was the result of an experiment so please: experiment more..and post them for us to enjoy ;) couldn't believe you needed encouragement, you're a natural infront of the lens :)
OK, now for the image iteself: it's interesting, and I like the fact that only half the face is exposed, the technique is creative and demonstrates originality and skill.
Regards,
Shelly.

Wow! NIce shot! mysteriouss! hehehe
i like the way you have done it!

Very beautiful self portrait.I specially like the gradient and the way you look to the camera. It is warm.Congrats , Fernanda.
