[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of the most popular attactions to be seen in the whole Iceland and one that is very easy to reach is this fantastic filled with floating icebergs lake named 'Jokulsarlon ' .It is worth spending a couple of hours here walking along its shore admiring the wonderfully shaped ice sculptures perhaps spotting a seal swimming by them , or taking a trip in an amphibious boat for an even closer look . An enjoyable and memorable sight anyway !
A brief note about the lake : One would think that the lake was formed naturally in the last Ice age but the fact is , it is only 75 years old. The icebergs calve from the Breidamerkurjokull glacier ( tough one to pronounce...) itself an offshoot of the larger Vatnajokull .The glacier is retreating rapidly so is the lake expanding consequently .It is nearly 200 m deep making it probably the second deepest lake of Iceland .Its size at 18-sq-km also makes it the largest glacial lake in the country .Interesting to know , the icebergs ,small or large float around for years eventually drifting along the short river-inlet under the bridge( an important east-west link ) and finally end their journey into the nearby sea ( a few hundreds meters away ..)to melt and get tossed onto the black beach by the powerful waves where photographers can have other snaps ,now in much more different surroundings .
As is so often the case in Iceland the cloud cover was rather heavy with gray that day so in PP i re-adjusted highlights and exposure to my liking , sharpened a tad and added some contrast as well , iso 80 ,f/5.6 1/320...

Nice Carol - great landscape, well done with the dull lighting. Looks a lot cooler in August than where I live!!!!

Again - good to have the figures and boat to give a sense of scale..

Wow Carol, great capture. The cloud cover gives the scene a real grey look, except for the few blue icebergs and the slight color on the shore. Nice perspective from up on the hill. What an amazing sight to see. Thanks!

Hello Carol, with all the grey in the picture, at first I thought that you had desaturated the shot!
But after reading your notes I can understand the colour.
The landscape and your view are quite unique.
I like the inclusion of the people,to help us appreciate the scale of these huge pieces of ice.

Fantastic scene from Iceland. The view is breathtaking, despite the difficult light conditions, you managed to capture it very well, good colours and sharpness. Unfortunately, I haven't been there, but it mst have been a great experience for you. Terrific photo! TFS.

Stunning shot here Carol. Very nicely composed with subdued but very natural colours. The floating icebergs are stunning; what a landscape.

Your settings suggest there was plenty of light that day, and I think the overcast sky made this shot; it diffused the light and gave the rich saturation and deep tones we see here.

Not the kind of lagoon you'd do much swimming in.

The overcast sky sets the mood and the feeling of cold.
Great capture of these gigantic icebergs.
Did you ever find out why some are streaked by what almost looks like oil or was it caused by the berg overturning showing signs from the bottom?

Wow, I would love to visit a place like this - perhaps one day when the children are older.
The colours of the ice are amazing - makes for a great landscape. Captured the bleakness and coldness well.

AAah.. so you could see the mountains at the other shore of the lake! We didn't get to see them!
We did see the seals in the lake and of course the ice.
It sure is an amazing and magical place eh?

I really like your angle here. It gives a real nice view of both the lake and the area. Good idea to have some people in the shot too! this gives a good sense of size.

Bonjour Carol
Quel bel étalage au pied du glacier!
J'ai vu l'Alaska, mais jamais d'aussi belles glaces qui sont bien visibles parmi la grisaille. Certaines d'un bleu pur et d'autres chargées de poudre de roc.
Un beau terrain de jeu pour les phoques et sa taille est facile estimer à cause des personnages.

Je faisais un survol de vos photos, elles sont tellement jolie, mais je me suis arrêter sur celle ci. Les couleur sont magnifiques, et les gens sont tellement petits a coté de ce phénomène de la nature. Très bonne prise de vue. Et félicitation pour l,ensemble de ton travail.
