She's gona blow!!!

Yesterday I showed you the empty hole of Strokkur as it had just sprayed the fountain of hot water and steam.
After filling up again the water inside starts to heat up due to the high temperatures underneath the earth's crust. As the temperature rises up to 120ºC water can no longer remain water, but turns into steam.
I explained yesterday that steam takes up more space than water and since that hole is quite deep, but narrow the steam/water must find a way out... up in the air.

In the beginning you see the waterlevel in the hole rise and fall and rise and fall... untill suddenly you see the "blue bubble". That's the moment to catch, because then it will burst... up to 35 meters!!!

Enjoy the view!

Cropped a bit and lightened, coz this was taken at about 23.00!

:-)
Anneke

P.s.: I wanted to post a picture especially for Linda (Shelbeesmom) today, but I decided to wait till tomorrow.... Sorry Linda! ;-)

Hi Anneke,
This is a really interesting shot, I love the way that you have captured the moment just before she blows. Good detail and colours especially since it was so late at night.

Te gek Anneke, door het huisje op de achtergrond krijg je ook een gevoel van de grootsheid.
Prachtige foto van een indrukwekkend moment.

Heerlijk die nachtfotografie in het hoge Noorden.

Hi Anneke, great shot, looks like a scifi portal or alien landing or something, very good composition with the centered geyser as it contrasts with the sorroundings and everything is drawn to it
