A scanned image from my film days taken in Ireland. Kylemore Abbey is located in a spectacular setting on the edge of this little lake whose name I do not remember.

Wikipedia: Kylemore Abbey (Irish: Mainistir na Coille Móire) is a Benedictine nunnery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara, County Galway, Republic of Ireland. The abbey was founded when Benedictine Nuns fled Belgium in World War I.

Originally called Kylemore Castle, it was built between 1863 and 1868 as a private home for the family of Mitchell Henry, a wealthy politician from Manchester, England who was also MP for Galway County from 1871 to 1885. After the death of his wife Margaret in 1875, Mitchell did not spend much time there. He and his wife are both buried in the small mausoleum near the church in the grounds of the abbey. Notable features of the abbey are the neo-Gothic church (built between 1877 and 1881), a miniature replica of Norwich Cathedral, made from local green Connemara marble, and the Victorian walled garden.

The abbey houses a secondary girls' boarding school, Kylemore Abbey International Girls' School. The house and gardens are open to the public.

The name Kylemore originates from the Irish words Coill Mór – meaning Great Wood.

Thanks for the visit and have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Daniel, well done on the sepia tone and the composition. Cheers! :)

A castle! Really excellent shot Daniel, could be a little sharper, or maybe it's my eyes! HA! Nice contribution!

Fine sepia picture, Dan. I like the composition with the reeds in the front.
Have a nice weekend too,
Tibi

Today's sepia theme is great for showing all kinds of sepia effects...and I am surprised at all the different sepia looks. This is one of those light, slightly pink versions that I really like for the subject and scene here. The castle looks idyllic and cozy nestled in the composition between woods and water. Maybe there is such a thing as a "sepia life"...lol.

Great sepia photo of the abbey

Hi Daniel
Your picture certainly hints at a spectacular setting. Good choice for a sepia. Was the original B&W negative?
I like the contrast level, not too high, just fine for this subject. The abbey is well positionned.

I'm not a fan of sepia at all, but this is very well composed and captured, and unlike most sepia "efforts," it genuinely has the look and feel of an old, old photograph.
Well done!

Hello Daniel,

Strangely, this looks so much better on full size than it does on the thumbnail! The pov is perfect and the composition superb! The sepia tone gives quite a timeless feel. I like it very much! Well done!

Bev :-)

Hello Daniel,
Nicely composed castle shot. Agree with Linda on little sharpness.
Overall well composed photo. TFS
