bari's cathedral is one of many masterpieces of italian Romianic architecture
heere is the stroll of people , priests (on the steps) and tourists in a sunny october midday . the reflection on the door sseems to want to keep all outside world away form the spiritual dimension of the indoors
(from Wikipedia)
Bari (Barium in Latin, Bàrion or Vàrion in Greek, Bare in Neapolitan) is the capital city of the province of Bari and of the Apulia (or, in Italian, Puglia) region, on the Adriatic sea, in Italy. It is the second economic centre of mainland Southern Italy and is well known as a port and university city, as well as the city of Saint Nicholas. The city itself has a decreasing population of 328,458 over 116 km², while the fast-growing urban area counts 653,028 inhabitants over 203 km². Another 500,000 people live in the metropolitan area.
Bari is made up of four different urban sections. To the north, the closely built old town on the peninsula between two modern harbours, with the splendid Basilica of San Nicola (Saint Nicholas), the Cathedral of San Sabino (1035 - 1171) and the Castello Svevo of Frederick II, is now also one of the major nightlife districts. The Murattiano section to the south, the modern heart of the city, is laid out on a rectangular gird-plan with a promenade on the sea, and the major shopping district (the via Sparano and via Argiro). The more modern city surrounding this center was the result of chaotic development during the 1960s and 1970s over the old suburbs that had developed along roads splaying outwards from gates in the city walls. Finally, the outer suburbs have been in rapid development during the 1990s. The city has a redeveloped airport named after Pope John Paul II, Karol Wojtyla Airport, with connections to several European cities.

The church of St. Sabinus (the current Duomo of the city) was begun in Byzantine style in 1034, but was destroyed in the sack of the city of 1156. A new building was thus built between 1170-1178, partially inspired by that of San Nicola. Of the original edifice, only traces of the pavement are today visible in the transept.

An important example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, the church has a simple Romanesque façade with three portals; in the upper part is a rose window decorated with monstruous and fantasy figures. The interior has a nave and two aisles, divided by sixteen columns with arcades. The crypt houses the relics of St. Sabinus and the icon of the Madonna Odigitria.
The interior and the façade were redecorated in Baroque style during the 18th century, but these additions were deleted in the 1950s restoration.

Ciao Anna.
Nice outdoor picture. I know they are really amazing inside.
For a moment I thought, to see my 'friend' Berlusconi.
But I think it is the Priest, not the Saint. haha
Try to avoid half people in it.
Best wishes from Jan
Ciao Anna.
Herewith the "well deserved" points, haha
btw, I'm not interested in points at all, but 'some' people seems to be jealours about that, sniff.
Best wishes from Jan

Hello Ana,
Great compo with a wonderful sharp view through the open door, giving the surreal feeling of a door between «outside» and... «outside»; a kind of italien «stargate» with expectant personages ... waiting, God knows for what...
Original and very well done.
Congrats, mb

Good morning Anna,
Thank you for visiting my gallery. I appreciate it.

I do like how you vertically composed this one. The church is well detailed, the exposure is to my liking, and the people below the steps add interst. My compliments. Danilo

Olá Anna

Ciao Anna, mi piace questo scatto che riprende un momento di socializzazione. Il riflesso sul portone è nitido. Bari è stupenda! Complimenti Mari

Hello Anna
Cathedrals are built high to show the direction to the sky or to be closer to God. They are very high to show a kind of proportion between man an God, that is, man is so small compared to God. That's what you show here with this splendid composition and it is particularly obvious in the thumbnail. Very nice street scenery and daily life. You got a very good control of the whites.I wonder what's that man on the seps doing with that long metal tube.
Nicely done
Serge

Ciao Anna, bella immagine bloccata sul gruppo davanti al duomo che fa da bg movimentato dal riflesso sulla vetrata. Brava!
ciao, cinzia

Hi dear friend,
nice to visit again your gallery.
Wonderful vertical approach in this one.
Great view looking up.
Looks great without a frame.
Have a lovely day.
Ioana

anna,
I'm not sure what you are trying to show us here. If it's the bari's cathedral then I am afraid it is quite overexposed at the top left and there isn't enough of it to make it interesting. I suggest you taking a step back or so. You shot this at 17mm and that's pretty wide so having a big zoom lens was not your issue. While I do appreciate your notes from Wikipedia, I think the notes have outdone the photo here. There is a man split down the middle on the right, a half of a lamplight on the right, only a section of the windows at the top, which makes for a pretty poor composition. You should have made a choice and stuck with it. Which was more important and which was least important. In camera composition is really important, especially when you refuse to crop or help the photo out with some PP work. I have notice a fair amount of people here have said they thought the composition was good and there is a good amount of details...I have to bite the bullet and go against the grain here and say, they need to look at the photos before they just start typing critiques. This shows the point-club in the works...sorry but that's how I see it.
