[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
«Ponte Vecchia» is the oldest of Florence's six bridges, probably going back to Roman times with its stone pillars and wooden planks Although It was built in stone it was destroyed by a flood in 1333. It was built again twelve years later.

The five arches became three and the main part was widened. The shops, housed under the porticos, first belonged to the Commune but later on, towards the 15th century, they were sold to private owners and began to change through subsequent additions, raised parts and external terraces, extending towards the river and altering the original architecture in an anarchical, suggestive way.

In the 15th century these shops were greengrocers, butchers, fishmongers. But then perhaps because of their bad smell, Ferdinando I replaced them with goldsmiths, making the road more elegant and cleaner.

In 1565, «Cosimo I de' Medici», Duke of Florence, had the famous «Corridor» built by Vasari on the upper side passing over the shops. There's a curious story about that: The Mannelli family who owned a medieval tower at the southern end, towards Pitti Palace, did not want to give the Duke right of passage. So the «Corridor» had to be deviated, as we can still see today, around the tower.

The row of shops is interrupted in the center and the bridge opens over the Arno with two splendid, panoramic terraces. Here in 1900, they put up the bust of Benvenuto Cellini, that ingenious Florentine goldsmith and sculptor.(*)

«Ponte Vecchia» is one of the city's best known images, and maybe it’s impossible to get a perspective that hadn’t been seen before. I’ve tried… hope you like it.

There is something very interesting about those "off tones" but it fit this image so well. There is a strong sens of "old" that perspire from this image. Good perspective and interesting subject. I also like the human presence under the arch. Well done.

there is something special about this image...I can't realize what, but it gives me some special feeling in my heart. And I like this feeling...thank you for that.

To focus on the photo...another wonderful shot from your made in Italy series. Great POV and excellent composition. I like the colours and saturation...they remind me of some old image hidden in a photo album and waiting to be discovered again. I think that the true beauty of life and world is also like that...hidden and waiting to be found. We just need to open our eyes and hearts to find it.

I was looking at your photo and thinking "this picture looks so... so... old!"
and then I realized why: the colours have that particular cast that used to appear a few years after they had been printed, especially the Kodak papers used to look like this (kind of cyan tinge all over...)
and yes, the people under the arcade are just where they should be =)
