BONG SAN MASK DANCE DRAMA (Korean Dance)

Bong San mask Dance was performer in every Dano festival and summer soltice about 200 years earlier. It was composed of 7 chapter: 4 Sangjwa dance, 8 Mokjung dance, Sadang dance, Nojang dance (Old priestt’s dance), Lion dance, Yangban dance e Miyal dance. Ahead of the dance, performers with puttingon masks and clothes hold street game and ceremony for gods with playing music. It shows hardship of common people, innuendo on Yangban and spoiled monk, and violence of men against women under the poligamy. It is characterized by a lot of citation and imitation for Chinese poems unlike other masks dances. Bongsan Mask Dance is the most well-known among mask dances in the West Sea area, that is HwangHae Do.

Four young monks are carried on stage one by one on the shoulders of other monks. After the young monks are placed on stage, the other monks leave.

we have an annual International Dance Festival in our town, never saw this dance.
