Hill of Nivolét (2612 m.) at 7.00 a.m., we had the aim to reach the refuge Vittorio Emanuele before noon, to have the time to rest before climbing the mount Gran Paradiso (4.061 m)the day after. We have slept at refuge Città di Chivasso (a frozen night indeed) and we have to go through the hill, go down in Pont St. Martin (Valsavarenche-Vallée d'Aoste) and go up again to R. Vittorio Emanuele: 4 hours around.
But this cow didn't agree with us!
He placed on track and, although we tried to convince him to allow our passing, he follow us in every change of direction, with a lot of moos and ringing bell, very threatening. There are only us and him, and after quite half an hour we decide to came back of some hundred meters and climb to the slope at left (at right there was the lake). So we could pass, and he stayed regarding us from the track, the infamous!!
I took this photo in the early minutes of this fight. |
