Located at Pompéï near of Naples, this temple is a typical Roman style temple. Generally, the Greeks built temples closer to the ground with space inside the temple for worshipers. The Roman temple was fashioned with space for worshipers outside in a courtyard. The temple was high off the ground and only the priests were allowed inside. In the rear of the Temple of Apollo was a room that only the high priest could enter. The bronze statue of the pagan god Apollo is a reproduction of the original, which is housed in the National Archeological Museum in Naples.
Pompéi is an ancient city of Italy near of Naples to the foot of Vesuvius. The city was very damaged by a violent one earthquake into 63 after J.-C. and was completely buried into 79 after J.-C. at the time of an eruption of Vesuvius. Pompéi did not disappear under a mud flow, like Herculanum, but under a layer from 4 to 6 meters of ashes and lapilli under which it slept during more than 1500 years; it was only in spring 1748 that excavations were undertaken. From 1924, the archaeologists engaged of the stratigraphic excavations in order to reconstitute the architecture of the hidden buildings. The rain of ashes and lapilli which accompanied the eruption sealed the city hermetically and protected the many public buildings, temples, theatre, baths, gravers and houses. The whole of the buildings and the objects give an exceptionally complete image of the life of a provincial Italian city of the first century after J.-C. The buildings which remained mark a transition between the Greek style and the methods of construction of the Roman empire.

good crisp image, interesting, well done, M, (*_*)

Annie what a surprise to see this. Very good photo and informative intro! Amazing. TFS and bye
John

good to see you back

Bravo!

Very carefully selected POV and excellent composition. The colors are amazing , sprcially the sky. Very good DOF and I also like the shadow from the columns. Despite the strong lighting you managed a great exposure.
Vassilis

P.S. Thank you for your kind comments.

very sharp image..clear blue sky with a small cloud..in the far i can see a mountain also.

i wud like to move left from the current position to include all the pillars and to avoid the dark part of broken pillar on the right bottom. what u think annie.

very good note that give a good info abt pic.
good one

Amitiés,
Robert

wonderful informative note you gave us, i like the lines and the diagonal shadows, i love how the mountian range in the background contrasts and throws in a pinch more appeal...TSF...james

Splendid photo!! Nice balanced composition with the distant mountain well placed. The lighting is just right as it illuminates the statue and structures nicely. I also adore the nice colors.

Wonderful presentation Annie. The portratit view is well suited to the subject. Good strong colours, excellent use of the light showing the strong shadows and terrific perspective. TFS,
David

Hi, Annie!
A wonderfull European photo from an American! Starting with the explanation note and ending with the small white cloud, going through the exc. focus and colors - everithing is a pure delight.

By the way, speaking about Greeks and Romans, do you know that the land you are shown was called in ancient times Magna Grecia - the Great Greece? I think that this was the origin place of the word "Greek", because Greeks never call themselves Greeks but Hellinikos. Greece has never been called "Greece" by its population, but Ellada and their languge is not Greek, but Elliniki, according to them? Funny twists of historical names, aren't they? Almost the same with Germans - they never call themselves Germans, but Deutchers... Hungarians call themselves Magiar, pronouncing Modiar...
But enogh or too much boulderdash from me!...
Best regards,
Anton

Ah!
