To paraphrase Captain Alberto Bertorelli: "Whadda mistaike to maike"...

On the Piazza della Rotonda, directly opposite the beautiful Pantheon, I noticed a building with a marble sign... It was put on that wall to commemorate the fact that pope Pius VII had "cleared the square of Marcus Agrippa's Pantheon from the ugly stalls" (sorry, my Latin is quite rusty ;o)). It is reported indeed that at the beginning of the 19th century there was a huge problem with illegal stalls with fish and other provisions on this square. Look here for some more info.

If you look closely, you'll see why I think this causes an ironic situation today ;o).

By the way, the reflection you see in the window on the right is part of the text on the Pantheon's fronton.

Tech talk

A difficult one for cropping, I found. The Piazza della Rotonda is always full of people, so avoiding them was impossible.

Cropped slightly.

Cloned out and moved some heads.

Downsized for TL as per usual (USM 80 %, 0.5, 0).

Added Frank's framing.

(sorry, out of points)

A very funny site to see, you did well catching this one. Did you vacation there?

Yeap, nice irony with the MacDonald sign underneath the sign (my latin is even rustier than yours!!!). Interesting crop to include only the top of the heads of people, very different (just read that you moved heads...had not noticed so well done on PP work). I like the inclusion of the tree at the top left which creates a nice natural frame. Well done!

Hi Frank,

I'm a little lost on this as my latin is non-existant ..!..lol... Still, I like the composition. Seems like a very busy square. It's intersting as to where you may go, you will always find a McDonalds.. :)

Well done & TFS

MacDonalds ugly? Never! Those beautiful golden arches overlooking the Piazza della Rotonda for all to see and come and taste! It's that word again Frank - PROGRESS and the $$$$ signs, or Euro's now!
Well seen and captured. Good one !

Hi Frank,
That's really ironic and I like how you capture it showing all the action going on on this square. Very well done.
Luc

I see many funny things... You catch another one who shooting something on your right. There is a pidgon directly in the border of the umbrella! The window invert the writing of another monument and it's look like T2 (Terminator II) A great classical of a comercial (but good ) movie. Good to match with Mc-Do Gniark! Gniark!

But at least they do a certain effort to not broking the style of the place with them yellow and red colors too much comercial for the place :)
Good observation!

Well noticed Frank.
But at least I can't see any neon-lit "loud" signs in red and yellow, as is customary with these establishments.
I find it remarkable how the colour of the wall (typical italian) coincides with the blossom of the tree, the McDonald lettering and even the colour in the faces !
There could be a slight perspective correction (vertical lines have a bit of a tilt)
