Enjoying dinner at the Piazza Navona, one is forced to listen to numerous street musicians. Some are good, some are hopeless... IMO the problem is that they mostly play covers, and I usually feel that covering equals... violating. There are some exceptions, but only a few.

Now this youngster was a pleasant surprise ! He enjoyed us with a few covers of classic Italian songs such as "Volare", but he mastered Vivaldi's La Primavera as well. Amazing, as I think he must be somewhere between 9 an 11 years old. As for his vocals... there's still room for improvement ;o). Anyway, he definitely had the most potential of all street musician we saw in Rome.

As he really impressed me, I decided to take a snapshot for memories' sake. As I took only one shot - I really don't like taking pictures of strangers - I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

In case you wonder why you can't ignore these street musicians, look behind his right knee; all of them bring a portable, battery-operated amplifier... which compensates a lack of quality with an overflow of power ;o)

Tech talk

Flash exposure compensation: -1/3 stop.

Cropped slightly from top and right sides. No doubt some of you will dislike the bright lamp in the top left corner. I deliberately left it in to show where the red glow on the pavement comes from. Ah well, opinions differ ;o).

Hi Frank,

The young maestro seems to be really into it by the looks of it! I can only image how it would sound. Having said that, can he play any Hendrix.. :)

Great composition & TFS :)

Un bien beau souvenir de tes vacances Frank. La pose du jeune garçon fait bien ressortir l'ambiance musicale comme un bon Italien sait le faire même à cet âge. Très réussie cette prise de vue...

Hi Frank, I hope you dropped him a euro or two!
He is caught quite well in the light of your flash. Not too bright nor too soft. I am pleased to see the lamp burning in the BG as it reflects a good colour on the stone cobbles. Well captured, thank you
Janice

Excellent night shot, I like the way the light has lit just enough the BG to have an idea what is there and the very lively capture of the young maestro.
Εξαιρετική δουλειά Φράνκ, είναι πολύ δύσκολο να πετύχεις καλό φωτισμό σε τόσο σκοτεινό περιβάλλον.
Φιλικά,
Βασίλης
