Sorry I haven't critiqued any photos for a while but I have been away on a jolly to Sicily. One of the first things I did on the trip was to head up to the magnificent greek theatre at Taormina for views over Etna.

Information from Wikipedia:
But by far the most remarkable monument remaining at Taormina is the ancient theatre (the teatro greco, the "Greek theatre"), which is one of the most celebrated ruins in Sicily, on account both of its remarkable preservation and of the surpassing beauty of its situation. It is built for the most part of brick, and is therefore probably of Roman date, though the plan and arrangement are in accordance with those of Greek, rather than Roman, theatres; whence it is supposed that the present structure was rebuilt upon the foundations of an older theatre of the Greek period. With a diameter of 109 metres (after an expansion in the 2nd century), this theatre is the second largest of its kind in Sicily (after that of Syracuse); it is frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances and for concerts. The greater part of the original seats have disappeared, but the wall which surrounded the whole cavea is preserved, and the proscenium with the back wall of the scena and its appendages, of which only traces remain in most ancient theatres, are here preserved in singular integrity, and contribute much to the picturesque effect, as well as to the interest, of the ruin.

hi karan, wow this place looks absolutly amazing, excellent capture, cheers, scott

Hi Karan,
A very wonderful photo. The way you used the ruin to frame the Etna is very well found. I really like the way it looks as if the ruin is seperated from the BG by the clarity of the air. This photo is really timeless.

Hi Karan,
I was away on a jolly too (you managed to teach me a new expression, thanks). Very nice landscape, well composed but the verticals are a bit slanting. You can esily correct that in pp.

Tibi

The archielogical site is beautifully composed in this frame. Excellent management of high intense mid day light. Dominating blue hue is looking interesting. Well done Karan.

Many thanks for sharing this image.

hi Karan,
a lovely view.
The colours are very good. Nice contrast and range of tones. Exposure also looks just about right and the volcano in the back adds interest :)

best regards, D

I like the incisivity of the foreground with the ruins well defined and the more undefined background that adds a sense of distance. Good strong morning light which you mastered very well.
Compliments,
Donato
