Siena, (except for the main Campo) is always tough to photograph as the streets and alleys are so narrow. One afternoon on my last visit I took a walk in the unrelenting heat and went to the bus station. Standing under the shade of the station I looked up and, voila, a new view of the place. It's what I would call the "backside" of this storied city.
A little sharpening and levels work but I left it pretty much as it was that hot August day. |

Hi David,
It's better that you left the photo without much editing. The colors are so warm and alive.
I noticed most of the wooden windows are green, I wonder why ? Did you ask them ? :-)
An interesting place & viewpoint, Thanks !
The backside it's definitely something unknow to most of the people who visited Siena, like me for example ;-)
I think it looks great the way it is.

gorgeous David! oh i love italy so much... never been to Siena but one of my closest childhood friends is from there so it's always been a place i've wanted to see (along with just about every town in italy and all that's in between ihih) beautifully composed shot.. you're right the very nature of how most of these italian towns are contructed especially in the hilly central regions make them a challenge to photograph but you've done a terrific job!
uhm.. what a great 'backside' she has!! :D
